How much did earlier out-opts amplify current roster problems?

I can't find any hard data for this, but have heard talk on the radio (and from others) that some of these postponed games were extremely close in terms of the 53-man roster minimum.

Do you think that's true?

I hadn't really considered it, but I know as of a few weeks ago, over 50 FBS players had opted out.

LSU was right around 70 scholarship players when the season started.

Lost nearly 40 players from the 2019 team due to the draft, graduation, transfers, opt outs, and other things.

So they only started with 17 players to spare, and once you figure injuries, etc., it didn't take much contact-tracing at all to get it down below the threshold.

Then another player opted out a few weeks ago and obviously Brennan isnt available.

15 players or so isn't shite when you look at the way contact tracing works in this league, its surprising LSU has only had to postpone one game.

Back in september during camp LSU was hit hard on oline
Had the season started earlier they would not have been able to play a game due to low oline numbers

As I understand it, at least 50 players around the country opted-out due to COVID, before the season even started.

Opting out and leaving the team to prepare for the Draft?

It was joke, as in most of players have opted out mid season.

These opt-outs are the kind of people that probably never honored a commitment in their life. They will make shitty husbands for some unfortunate woman and a shitty father to some unlucky kids. It will be interesting to see how many of the "opt-outs" don't make it in pro football.

Or they're players who had nothing left to prove and didnt want to end up like Jaylen Waddle.
