How many #1 high school recruits have gone on to be the #1 overall draft pick?

Good question. Was Mario Williams rated #1 anywhere?

As far as I know Clowney might be the first. At least in recent memory. I know AP was drafted 7th after being #1 HS recruit. Robert Nkemdiche has a chance to do it as well.

I would think Stafford, but that may not be right.

He's a sure fire first rounder but Tunsil will go ahead of him... Conner and Treadwell could as well.

Paysites try to rate kids based on how well they'll play their positions, while the NFL drafts on positions needs. Unless Houston is head over heels for Clowney I doubt it happens soon.

Peyton was recruited before the modern rating system, but he was very highly thought of coming out of high school. He would definitely have been in contention for that spot.

IIRC, Percy Harvin was #1 HS Recruit that year.

Stafford was not rated #1 overall by any recruiting service.

He was the #1 QB, but not the top recruit. He was in the top 10 though, so close

Maybe Eli? I don't know if there were rankings then though. I am sure he got a lot of love because of how successful his brother was.

Due to position needs, who was top 15 coming out of high school that got drafted in the top 15 may be a better question.
