to the elite level they were at in the 90s and before? Are we watching a once powerhouse fall for a long period of time?

Could be similar to Ole Miss in the 50s and 60s falling to where we have been the last 40 years.

Just seems in 10 years we will be looking back at the Tennessee program like old folks use to look at Ole Miss. Good a long time ago.

Just curious what causes a downfall of such a great program?

A lot of them are trying to put a good face on this hire, but they know they're fricked.

They said the same thing about Alabama not too long ago. Six years later we're in dynastyland.

Some of them were trying to put a good face on Dooley as well last year at the LSU/Tennessee game in Knoxville or at least the ones I spoke with at the game. Feel sorry for them cause I remember LSU in the 90's. Too many resources to be that bad.

With Florida/SC/Georgia in their division, they have a lot of work to do. Having Franklin stay at Vandy doesn't help either, and I think Stoops will get UK competitive in a hurry.

It's not so much as when Tennessee will make it back to the top, it's more when the top starts to regress a bit.

I would not say we're "fricked".

Butch Jones has won every where he has went, I have no reason to believe he cannot win at Tennessee. With that being said, he has to put together an A+ defensive staff with quality recruiters, I am not 100% sold on Jones but also think the man has fire, passion and is VERY competitive.

We will know very soon the answer to that question.

I'm guessing pedophile state will be back before Tennessee. Just a thought

even 2012 UT team with swiss cheese defense almost beat UF, UGA, and SC

UF firing on all cylinders could be even more dangerous than Alabama. playing UF will always be a PITA. I can see why LSU wants to back out like a pussy

UGA has potential to be great if they get the right coach but they'll never win anything under Richt. they benefited from having cupcake schedule and other programs being down. if Richt stays, UT will be back sooner.

SC will be a tough team as long as Spurrier is there. but they'll never win anything significant even with Spurrier there

SEC East and the entire SEC will be a dog fight with several monster programs going at it. it'll not be like the 90's with only 2 teams (UF and UT) being relevant.

Maybe not relevant, but still top 10 in revenue. Amazing with how much we have sucked.

Richt is the reason for UT's demise. He pulled Gardner from UT & cut off UT's Atlanta pipeline. During the Goff/Donnan era UT pulled between 2-5 four & five stars outta the N.Ga/Atl. area every year. Since Richt has been at UGA you've got Berry & DaRick & that's it...

I just depends. If Jone's can win a couple games he shouldn't like against UGA or SC in his first few years he could get UT some momentum and get some recruiting pipelines. Or he could lose to everyone he shouldn't beat and then were screwed. He's just needs to have a homerun year (9 or 10 win season) at some point early or were screwed.
