They couldn’t win it with the probable Heisman winner. Could they have won it of they had Burrow? Mahomes maybe?
You don't know much about football do you to be asking such a stupid question?

Why couldn’t LSU field any kind of defense this year?
You had at least two first round NFL players on your team this year. How was LSU’s defense so bad in Brian Kelly’s second year? Seriously, how was it that bad?
We know the answer. Brian Kelly does not coach smash mouth football. He doesn’t coach his players to go out hit the other team. To go out and be tougher than the opponent. To go make the other team quit. That is what made LSU football great.
He doesn’t coach that.
His best defensive player was Manti Te’o. And we know about that.

He knows that. They all know that.
Alabama backdooring into the playoff isn't enough. They need us to be miserable too.

I know he knows and is trolling. Just wanted to share the stat ranks for perspective.

Is it all on the defensive coordinator or was defensive talent a problem? Either need to fire the DC or recruit a lot better on defense.

LSU’s defense eliminated us from any real contention. We could have been well below average on D and maybe still have made noise. Instead we got the worst defense in all of college football. Too much to overcome.

A little of everything.
House wants a complicated scheme. When they simplify the defense makes plays.
Not sure that's a good solution for the whole season though.
Our secondary was questionable going into the season and lost probably half it's depth by mid-season.
