He was good enough to recruit Cam and hire Gus. If they had failed Chiz would have gotten the blame, so he has to get the credit as well.

This. BUT I'm not sure he will live long enough much less coach another once every 50 year player like Cam Newton.

With out Cam last year Awbarn wins 8 or 9 games and they damn surn't beat LSU. LSU recruits well at every position we don't need that super star to win it all. Awbarn needs that player, I don't see one in the near future. GC will win his 7-9 games until their snake oil fed recruits run out then it's in the tank and he gets fired.

If Gus was still there I would feel a little different.

BTW we had our Cam type player in RP, if he had kept his shite together 08 and 09 would not have happened.

I think he's doing a great job.I just hope he keeps up the good work only beat us by 1 with one of the greatest college football players of all time. Looks like we will have nothing to worry about!!

You should have shared this with your fellow Updykes last year instead of allowing them to implode and become obsessed with everything AU. You guys still sending the NCAA anonymous emails about how AU is cheating?

Because all REAL football fans, obviously most of you aren't included in this, but all real football fans know that Tubby redshirted NO ONE in 2007 and recruited NO ONE in 2008...which is why there are no Seniors, no redshirt Jrs....whole team is Sophs and Fr...

Why would we care to know that level of detail about Auburn? All I know is that by next year you will have 3 top 10 clases in a row under CGC for yr 4. There should be no more Tubby atrition issues. And it was Tubby's offensive line that gave you the NC with Cam. He couldn't have done it without them. If Auburn is not contending in the West next year I would have to call him incompetent.

Is he the beneficiary of Cam Newton along with Gus's offense?

Seems like all the stars line for him including the the OL and DL lines that were in place... I have my doubts about him winning big again in the SECW.

Yes. It will be interesting to watch over the next couple of years. Their NC was due to a freak and incredible player that comes around once in a decade. The AU meltdown has begun.

WRONG! Gus recruited Cam and Chizik was strongly AGAINST it!

So you actually believe that Auburn signed a player that the HEAD COACH was opposed to signing?

You didn't do very well in kindergarten, did you?

Some of you people are dumber than a box of rocks.

Is this typical of Tiger Rantards? Or atypical?

How often has he met or exceeded expectations as a head coach? Once

Auburn went 5-7 in 2008. When Chizik took over in 2009, NO ONE expected the "5-19" coach to do any better. In fact, they expected him to do WORSE. How did he do in 2009? 8 wins including a bowl win.

No one expected the "5-19" coach to win an SEC Championship and a BCS Championship in 2010. How did he do in 2010? 14 wins including an SEC Championship and a BCS Championship.

After losing Newton, Fairley, and the entire offensive and defensive lines, NO ONE expected the "5-19" coach to lead his team to anything of note. In fact, talking heads from coast to coast and fans from other SEC teams predicted DOOM. Herbstreit himself stated on national TV that if Auburn did better than 6-6 that Chizik should be named "Coach of the Year". How has Auburn done in 2011? 7 wins and a bowl game... 8 wins with a bowl victory.

So Gene Chizik only met on exceeded expectations "once" eh? Funny how you guys alter facts and history to conform to your hatred.

It is amazing how auburn posters act like "mother hens" when a post sheds light on their schools deficiencies. It is quite humorous. They really do have an inferiority complex. I feel sorry for them.

Do you want to see the reaction from Bama or LSU fans if something stupid was posted about their school?

We handle it fine. We don't cry about it and certainly don't ask for the thread to be banned. Take it like a man - grow up and quit being so sensitive.

How good is Gene Chizik?

In all honesty, he has exceeded expectation EVERY year he has been at AU....think about it...

'09 - 6 wins was expected, he won 8...
'10 - 9 wins was expected, he won 14...
'11 - 4 wins was expected, he's won 7 & counting...

You should ask why were expectations so low this year. They had 2 great recruiting years in a row.

Chizik is suppose be a great defensive coach. But his defenses have been terrible. Even last year the secodary was the worst in the SEC. He must be bad at player development. A recruits worst nighmare is going to a school that has great players in front of him but they keep losing. I wonder who will want to be an assistant for him with his record with Gus Malzahn and Ted Roof. Bombed with both of them.

Are you aware of what was lost from the 2010 team
QB overall number one
OL %80 of the starters
WR #1 guy on the team in production
DL 1st rounder and the guy that chased down Ingram
LB 2 out of 3 starters
S 2 starters and a back up
So your answer is Tommy Tubberville

I like him as a DC. His hiring of Malzahn and the staff he put together was good.

I'm not into the gimmicks he employs for recruiting but so far he's gotten the job done. In two years it'll be easier to judge him.

All reasonable and valid points. FWIW, I thought his recruiting gimmicks were pretty cheesy when I first heard about them (and they still are), but they are working so I have no problem with them.

The fact is, there was a perfect storm of experienced players, talented players, Cam Newton, Gus Malzahn and scheduling last season that Chizick navigated beautifully to a Championship. Only time will tell if he is legit or a one hit wonder, but he deserves more credit than most give him for what he did last season.

It isn't exact but that is similar to what LSU lost between 06-07.

This isn't to make this a Les vs Gene post. I think most of the reaction by people to throw dirt on GC and bury him is the constant praises that were sung last year during the run.

As far as I'm concerned, you can't judge a HC until he has to cycle assistants. Les was very spotty in this area (I know there were other extenuating circumstances) after hiring a great initial staff. To his credit, he was able to keep it together long enough to right the ship. Over the next few years, we will have the chance to see if Chizik can as well. The recruiting seems to have them off to a great start so I suspect he will be on the plains a while.
