Garrick's post reminds me of those old movies about someone getting cabin fever or turning into a werewolf.
It's like, "first, you will feel a slight fever. Nothing serious, but you will feel a slight chill. Next will come the sweating. At first it will be very slight, but soon you will be drenched in a cold sweat. Then, you will notice a sudden increase of hair all over your body. Your nails will begin growing at a rapid pace. Your teeth will sharpen. You will feel a sudden rage inside, and a craving for cattle."

Bowl Coalition started in 1992. Bama may not play for NC against Miami if this system was not in place.

The loss to Auburn in 2004 made me want to vomit. It was the first loss after the first BCS title and it stung, badly.
I think that Auburn is in for a tough road next year with at least 4 losses. They will burn a little.
As stated above, the second year is where it really sinks in as to what it takes to win and how far away you seem from getting back.
To me, and this is no shot at Auburn, I think there is less sustainability there than a place like Bama (because of Saban), Florida (because of recruiting base) or LSU (because of recruiting base). Auburn caught lightening in a bottle this year by landing probably the best college football player I have ever seen and one of the best DT I have ever seen out of JUCO in the last two years. The chances of that are almost zero.
Auburn will always be a good program, but I cannot see sustainability like others in the conference and for that reason, perhaps the Auburn fan perspective will vary slightly from other schools coming off of recent championships.
100% agree. I hope I can keep my expectations leveled, I know there will be a ton of dumbasses that won't be able to.

It was pretty accurate, that's just what it reminded me of.

I expect Saban to last maybe three more years. I see no reason why Auburn doesn't go on a big roll (provided the NCAA doesn't destroy the program) and challenge along with UF, LSU, Bama, etc.
That said, you lose AT LEAST four games next year, before you rebound. That's just the SEC.

How does winning the national championship change your perception?
This is a question for Florida/LSU/Bama fans. While I think it more pertains to Florida/LSU since they have won 2 BCS NC's.
Do you feel that your perception of what makes a successful season changed after winning the NC? The crystal ball had always been the holy grail for us Auburn fan's. Now that we have reached the pinnacle will our expectations for a successful season be changed? Auburn is a program that takes a NC run every decade or so, and I don't see that changing with this win. LSU, were you OK with your final placing this year? I know florida sure as hell isn't happy. Bama, was this season enjoyable for you?

it will never feel as good as it did the first time.
I was really not ready for the season to start this year because I knew we could not do it again.

Awesome first post. Welcome to the Rant.

Exactly. It was the highlight of their season. I have to admit, it feels good to know your team is the team everybody circles on the calendar.
C'mon dude, you and me both know that game means more to LSU fans than most other teams EVERY year because of it's traditional rivalry and especially now because of who ur coach is.
Sure, ya'll winning the title the year before made it even more special beating ya'll but that game and us winning had even more to do with where we were as a program and our feelings towards Les.
Next year the game at Alabama will probably be just as important to me and most LSU fans (as for as I would love to win it) as beating ya'll last year coming off a National title. Why? Because it's Alabama and our perceived rivalry ( I know I know not from your perspective but from LSU's perspective)

Oh, I know that game is a big deal every year, but I think everybody had it out for us last year. We had at least a two game win streak on everybody in the West. I know you saw your workout shirts leading up to that game. And FWIW, I think the Bama/LSU rivalr is just as intense (at least on gameday) as the Bama/AU rivalry. I've never been to a game in BR, but I know it can get pretty chippy between fans in Tuscaloosa.

4 loss season coming up. Hope the first loss happens early so everyone is salivating about being the first to beat us.
A 4-loss season seems likely, which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see Auburn lose 5. As cliche as it sounds, there really is something to be said for "beating the defending champions." I didn't think it was as big of a deal before this year, but having watched all of our games I can honestly say that we got everyone's best shot. South Carolina fans rushed the field when they beat us. Most people called it the biggest win Les Miles has ever had aside from the national championship game. There really is something to be said for having a target on your back all season, and Auburn will have one on their back all of next season regardless of their record.

I agree, I'm just saying I think the t-shirt thing had alot to do with how we felt we let it slip out of our hands against ya'll 2 years in a row.
Also, Les knew how important that game was to the fan base and if he didn't get back on track against Fl but especially Alabama he wouldn't last here no matter how much success he has against everyone else in the league.
That's the funny thing, (at least from my experience) I've always had a great time and great experience with Bama fans. As arrogant as I've seen on the internet, I've always had the nicest experience with bama fans and I've been to the last 10 out of 11 (missed 09 cause of really bad case of strep throat) at home and on the road.
Which I agree doesn't make much sense because as big as our rivalry seems to be getting and as big as the atmosphere definately is, I really have enjoyed the experience. That might have to do with the fact that we are both serious, knowledgable fan bases who I think respect each other when it boils down to it. O
f course both groups talk tons of smack on the internet all year long and leading up to the big game we try to belittle each group with insults and rediculous banter, but I think when it comes down to it on gameday, we understand the rivalry and enjoy it for what it is (for the most part).
BTW, I think the corn dog thing is lame but i do have to laugh at the corn dog traps your fans always set up for us in the big field in front of the library lol.

I've seen both the good and the bad. Leading up to the game in 09, there was a lot of shoulder bumping on the sidewalk and some trash talk (mostly by younger fans). Once we got into the stadium, we sat behind two guys who were super nice LSU fans. I think it has as much to do with the age bracket of the fans as anything. Either way, it and the Iron Bowl are by far my favorite games to attend. I try to go to all of them, and I hope to go the next time it's in BR.

All teams have fans we aren't proud of. Personally I really enjoy the tailgating with opposing fans. Usually have different food, fun to talk with and makes for a great experience. When it comes to the game I want to win like no one else. I don't trash talk but will argue with someone if they are being an idiot. FWIW
My wife is a Bengal so we are making the trip to BR next year and I am really looking forward to it. I have heard horror stories about things in the past but hopefully that is not the norm.

I've always heard horror stories, but I've always had a pleasant experience wherever I went. That having been said, I've only been to away games at Auburn and Tennessee.

I can't imagine them going easy on Auburn fans the year after winning the NC. :hopethepissballoonsareamyth:

LSU is not one of Alabamas rivals. Our rivals are auburn and tennessee...

Who are considered LSU's biggest rivals? I know they are always pushing the Arky game as a rivalry, but it is just now possibly starting to take shape.
