UGA beat them in the 1984 Cotton Bowl. Had Texas won they’d have been the NC. UGA was ranked 7th at game time, Texas 2nd. Texas and Nebraska were the only undefeated teams heading into NYD.
Later that night #5 Miami beat #1 Nebraska by 1 point. Miami ended up getting the NC at 11-1. Texas finished 5th, also 11-1. UGA was 4th at 10-1-1

It's kind of weird that LSU and Michigan have never played given that there have been a lot of bowls that match up good SEC vs good Big 10 teams.
I think Auburn and Notre Dame are the only other historical top 25 programs that have never played each other, but ND is picky about who they schedule and there haven't been many bowl opportunities.

That actually is pretty weird.
Seems like Les Miles would've tried to make that happen at some point — he played at Michigan, was a GA there under Bo Schembechler, and then later came back as an assistant.
