A lot of people know very little about Texas A&M, that was even more true before Johnny Football.
Everyone knows who the Texas Longhorns are.
Have you met someone that has never heard of Texas A&M? Or is this something that just sounded good in your head.

To be fair, two of your titles are considered illegitimate by many
Texas A&M has four national championships and the Longhorns have two that are recognized

The reality is neither school is Big Bro or Little Bro. They are both absolute monsters. They are the 2 wealthiest public schools in the country. They are both massive in every way. We are older and larger but they are only 7 years younger and one of the largest schools in the country as well. They are more accomplished in athletics but we are a Top 20 school historically in football as well as many other sports.
Of course we love to talk shite at each other. Texas is just particularly arrogant and they don't think anyone is on their level. They also have far more sidewalk fans than we do, the overwhelming majority of Aggie fans have a direct connection to the school. Texas is really the NFL team of Austin in many ways and going to the game last Friday reinforced that, it's just a very different vibe. Their loudest and rudest fans who love to talk the most shite about A&M rarely went to school at Texas, the ones who did tend to have a large amount of respect between the schools.
The most similar SEC dynamic is Auburn/Bama but even then it's different. Auburn and Bama are just very different schools mission wise in terms of academics and Bama is arguably the most successful college football program overall, though Auburn has had a good amount of success as well.

I was born & raised in Texas. Bachelors from Texas. In my late 20s, I moved to another large state. Whether in sports bars or social gatherings, I was surprised how little people knew about Texas A&M. Diehard college football fans in this other state struggled to name the A&M location and mascot. Everyone knew Texas is the Longhorns and based in Austin.

Because that's just what they do.

No.
Texas A&M claimed multiple titles, decades after the seasons occured and the legit titles were actually awarded, becase of retroactive computer rankings.
All of A&M's Titles are verified and undefeated seasons. Texas claims the 1970 Title when you lost the Cotton Bowl by 2 scores.

The only thing aggy is flagship in is hosting drag contests on their campus.
Aggy Flagship = Trans pageants...Draggieland
No red blooded Texan would claim a university that has all male cheerleaders as the flagship for the State of Texas.
Sorry ags. This is the way!

In the big bro/little bro discussion, this is an interesting drum to bang.
The Permanent University Fund was created in 1876. This is what made both institutions so wealthy. The University of Texas was allocated 2/3 of the PUF. A&M 1/3.
That is aguably the cleaest data point in the 'Texas > A&M' discussion.

Right...tell us more about how you would go to all these out of state sports bars and just want to talk about A&M athletics with someone.

Of course it’s stupid. I couldn’t care less about it as both schools have grown up since the 1890’s. Lol.
The pettiness is childish - but it also gives the rivalry more spice.
Did you make it to the game? It was the most electric environment you can find.

This proves you don't know much about college football. Titles were awarded before bowl games back then because many players, for a variety of reasons, didn't participate in bowls.
The President of the United States personally awaded the national title to Texas in the locker room after the final regular seson game.

I went to sports bars all the time on Saturdays. People would ask who I rooted for and I would say Texas. Are you really that surprised that A&M often came up in conversations?

Aggie being 11-0 and losing to Texas was the most Aggie thing ever. That's who they are - little brother with homosexual male cheerleaders dressed like a 1950's milkman.

Since the beginning, all of that aTm money is and always has been managed in Austin next to the University of Texas by UT people
Thats the only reason aTm has any money at all, UT manages lil bro funds

The only true metric of any academic institution is the record of its football team [/children's hospital finance board]

aTm is a cult for aTm cult people, they hate non-aggies, even have names for non-cult people
Texas has a dual Flagship System, they split the schools after the original State Constitution and they share the Permanent University Fund (PUF). Texas gets a larger share but also has to split it with all of their System schools and Hospital System while A&M only has to share with a few of ours as well as our State Agencies. The dollars per student for the PUF is basically the same. The other Texas Public Schools who are not part of either System (Texas Tech, North Texas, University of Houston, etc) don't get any of that money, they only get annual money from the state (as do A&M and Texas) as well as their own endowments.
The PUF is what makes the schools special. It was just dumb luck that the land grants for both schools happened to be what was at the time low value land mainly in West Texas they hoped to get some money from growing cotton or leasing to have cattle on. Of course it turned out that much of that land had massive O&G deposits under it as well as other rare minerals. That is why both schools have so much wealth. None of that can be used for athletics of course though.
