and UCF is in the Big 12 - it’s as screwed up as Hogan’s goat. If the NCAA had ANY foresight, they could have helped manage most of this years ago.
Eventually (IMHO) we will go back to regionally based conferences; something like the College Student Football League.

It’s the same reason FSU and Clemson are in the ACC and not the SEC. You have to drive past or fly over Tallahassee to get to Gainesville. Same with Clemson to get to Columbia and USC. Makes no sense.

What makes zero sense is having teams in a conference that overlap the same viewing area.

You're just dumb.

After the death penalty in 1987, SMU wandered in the wilderness for two decades. The SMU oil billionaires were humiliated and sick of seeing crosstown private school rival TCU have success.
They were looking to get into a legit conference. An opening came up in the ACC as conference realignment accelerated and they negotiated a spot in the ACC, with an agreement to opt out of any conference money this year.
That’s the majorly abridged version with a lot left out.
PS. SMU is filthy rich.

Well, it does give SMU an easier path to the playoffs.

The Pacific Ocean connects with the Southern Ocean.

Damn. My Tide is not gonna be so relevant in this NIL economy. History of how The Crimson Tide became revelant is so long ago no one remembers or cares.
Auburn has probably got more CEO graduate money than Bama. I'l like to see Bama stay a contender. I also pulled for Nebraska to be good....so who knows.
I think we'll fight to stay relevant .

The ACC has the most PRIVATE schools in the remaining Power Conferences.
Baylor is the crazy religious school
TCU is the less crazy school
SMU has money
ACC added another PRIVATE school with more money and less drama.

I think 1980 to 1984 really scared the other Texas schools for life.
Also, adding SMU to Big12 doesn’t ‘add’ anything to the conference. At least SMU gave ACC an entrance into Texas market.
SMU has tons of money but is a tiny private school. They don’t have a huge fan base or following.
