Every so-called blueblood program should go full on Notre Dame and play as an independent.

Being in a conference makes no sense anymore.

Independents can choose who, when and where they play and don't have to share the revenue.

They can keep rivalry games without being tied to a conference, won't be told their games start times, who they can accept as a transfer, which bowl invitations they can accept, even storm the field and not have to pay the opposing team.

Let other teams beat each other up week in and week out while playing for a now worthless conference title.

The playoff is the prize.

OU spent 30 years trying to get out of the Big 12 and into the SEC.

Being a higher seed is a big advantage. 1-8 have BYE weeks and home field for round 2.

Not if the "rivalry" team doesn't want to play out of their conference. But, go ahead. Try it.
