I've been reading that Fields had a bad attitude before the season began.

And I've read just the opposite on other boards. They say his character off the Field is just as good as it is on the field. I guess being really content and supported in a program can do that to a man.

Thanks! It was an honest question.

I don't think there has been but one class over the last 4 where Saban didn't add 2 scholarship QBs. And, then recruit multiple preferred walkons.

It is too tough a position to project today between injury, development, and transfer tendencies not to do so.

I'm not saying that Fields is a bad kid. Far from it. Great kid from a great family. He felt wronged in camp and didnt put in the work during the season. It is tough for coaches to reward that even when Fromm struggled against LSU.

I wasnt there. It is a source who covers recruiting (knows fields and the family). It could be a 2nd cousins take. Who knows. There are signs of the attitude during the season which make me lean towards a confirmation of the source.

When I say that fields had excellent ball protection for a freshman but didnt look ready to QB a P5 school, the reply I got is that he was soured before the season began and didnt do the work to improve his game. He was the same QB on game 13 as he was in game 1.

Edit to add 2 points:
Transferring to a new spot makes a lot of sense. I dont think the coaches wanted him to leave but I dont think they were shocked that a new setting would be better.

In the 18 year olds eyes, it was the coaching staff who wronged him. I can see that from an 18 year old perspective. And I can see an 18 year old pouting and affecting how he prepares. From the Fields family camp, both sides didnt handle things properly. Not the staff or their blood. The change was good.

We took 2 transfer walkons this past offseason as well. I'm guessing preferred walkons. I presume that they are still on the team. Most walkons don't get a lot of press on a regular basis. Edit to add: I dont think we've taken 2 scholarship QB recruits since Mark Richt (did it twice I think.
Murray/mettenberger 2009 and Cox/Barnett 2006. Only one kid gets the ball. I think we try to focus more on OL/DL and DB numbers

Yeah. If there was a way to lose a QB, kirby found it. Walkon going JuCo to start (bennett). We have another walkon who left and is the starting QB at some MAC school. Transfer portal for a 5 star. Brain surgery losing a QB for a freshman year. Covid QB opt-out. 2 knee surgeries for a 5 star transfer in.

Core problem is that Kirby ran off the best QB he ever had. What an idiot.

You very well may be right about that. Fields may have had an attitude problem in the situation he found himself in at UGA. I don't really think the racist card was the reason him leaving GA. but instead going to a school that could harvest his immense talent. He couldn't have found a better school for that. Would he have stayed at Georgia if he knew that Fomm was leaving???? I don't know, but there is always that possibility. Anyway, it is what it is.... and with what OSU can throw at you on offense is mindboggling. In afterthought he made the smart move.

I don't think Newman "screwed" Georgia because I believe he was never that good in the first place. He was adequate at Wake Forest with an average skill rating... He isn't a program saviour and all the fans that think he was are,IMO, delusional. I'd put him on the same plane as Mathis and Bennett.
