Techinally, the only thing the SEC mandates is 2000 seats in the lower bowl. The overall number is simply worked out by agreement between the schools. It's one of those areas where the SEC just doesn't have a lot of rules.
Silly Big 12 school.

I doubt I'll be lucky enought to get those

I just thought it couldn't be students between the 30's behind the visiting bench???

The conference tells schools where to seat visitors, how many tickets to make available, etc.; yet it allows schools like Arkansas to deny our band from performing at halftime.
There's a disconnect there, IMO.

Band invites are left up to the schools. Many schools have one or two games where high school bands perform at halftime, instead of the visiting team band.
It's usually known well in advance. Sounds like this is what happened to the Aggie band.

Why is that a problem? The schools reserve the right to use the halftime in any way they prefer. Homecoming/honoring past championship teams are a couple examples.
While You can bring your whole band to play during the game, your still a guest of the home team.

Well that's their loss; I remember watching y'alls band when they came to Oxford a couple years ago and probably tied for the best half time performance I've seen (Jackson State).

Aggy upset about SEC student seating policy
Sorry SEC, no take backs.
Poooooor aggy - SEC! SEC! SEC!
"Some of the same students who cheered so vigorously for Texas A&M to join the Southeastern Conference could be cheering from further away because of the move.
SEC policy does not permit student seating behind the visiting team's benches. Texas A&M's student senate passed a bill Wednesday night voicing displeasure with the SEC's policy, according to a report in The Battalion, the student newspaper.
The bill stated that "any reduction of student section seating … is detrimental to the 'traditions and pageantry the 12th Man brings to Kyle Field.'"
The SEC rules require that the first 25 rows of seats behind the opponent's bench, between the 30-yard lines, cannot be occupied by students. That area at Kyle Field has not only included student seating but also Texas A&M's marching band.

Is A&M just now changing the area of their student section?

It wasn't a problem. Obviously, we obliged, as no one from our university was confused about who was the guest. All schools have honorary-type activities like those that you described; yet I've never known of a university to deny a visitor's band from performing at the half.
As I said, the oddity enters the equation--for me--in that the SEC doesn't step in with regard to how visitors are handled in one aspect of game-day, but it inserts itself in another.
No big deal. Just an observation.

I wonder how those seats in section 30/31 will look. I sat with my dad in 100 at one of the games K-State came to Kyle. It was weird being behind the end zone

Do any of you Aggie fans know if TAMU has requested a waiver on the "no students behind the visitor's bench" policy?
quote:
Charles Bloom, the SEC's associate commissioner for media relations, said that, to his knowledge, a waiver of the policy has never been requested. If one is requested, it would have to be approved by a vote of the league's athletics directors.
Bloom said most of the SEC transition team's time has been spent on scheduling issues. "Additional meetings will take place prior to the summer, in which, I am sure game management policies will be discussed," he said in an email.
Cook said that Texas A&M hasn't been able to file a formal appeal because, technically, it doesn't become a member of the SEC until July 1.
