Glad to see Alabama finally joined the 21st century with the rest of the SEC West.
Now State is about to blow everyone out of the water. Alex Box may be the worst of them all once Dudy Noble is completed.

Agreed. And it looks like the PMAC will be getting one as part of an overhaul. Also getting renovated will be the Football Ops Center, the West Stadium Club, the Tiger Den East Suites common area, and hopefully the Tiger Stadium concourses...probably just the lower bowl...all will be part of a package announced by TAF later this year.
Uncertain if the Beach Volleyball stadium will be part of the deal.
Timetable will be 2017-2018, and around $80-$100 million for all.
Look for an announcement before March 2016.
I'll hold you to that Alleva. If you are wrong no more ensure or TD discount at my anti-aging clinic (in about 9 years

Not trying to start anything, but am curious how you feel about the spending. I've seen LSU's debt numbers up over $200 million a few years ago. Just interesting to see this from a different perspective. UF's approach has been to fundraise and borrow as little as possible.

LSU is doing the same thing as almost every other major athletic program, so I'm okay with it

Plus athletics continues to pump money back into the academic side of the university. Zero issue with it.

Athletics is cutting $10 million checks to the university so as long as that keeps happening I don't care what they decide to build with private funds.

I don't necessarily have an issue with it either and UF definitely seems to be the outlier, just curious how people felt about it.
Foley takes a different position than most:
quote:
“There are schools with $200 million to $300 million debt. I don't know how they sleep at night,” Foley said. “We need to stay in a position where we can't box ourselves into a debt situation.”

I think with the SECN and donation records broken the last few seasons, this shouldn't be an overwhelming issue for a very long time

Bless your heart.
I guess it's time for a primer on how LSU athletics works in regard to financing projects. And by extension how most, if not all other big-time athletic departments work as well.
quote:
The Tiger Athletic Foundation ("TAF") is a private, nonprofit corporation dedicated to supporting LSU and its Athletic Program.
Your donation assists TAF in its programs of support for LSU Athletics.
-Funding the construction and renovation of facilities and the purchase of equipment to provide Tiger student-athletes with the best possible opportunity to compete at a national level.
-Funding support for facilities and programs to enhance the academic opportunities for student/athletes.
TAF
I had actually written an article detailing how the process of building athletic facilities goes at LSU entitled Who really owns Tiger Stadium?
quote:

So who owns Tiger Stadium? The answer depends on the section in which you’re sitting.
If you’re watching a football game in a lower bowl seat, it’s owned by LSU. If you’re in a suite or an upper deck, it’s the Tiger Athletic Foundation.
In other words, LSU and TAF share Death Valley. And they pay each other to use it.

Greater Baton Rouge Business Report
Please note that TAF incurs any debt, not LSU. Not only does the LSU Athletic Program make a profit every year, it can afford to give $10 million back to the University...
quote:
BATON ROUGE, La. -- The LSU Athletic Department will transfer over $10 million this fiscal year to other components of the university for use in supporting LSU's academic, research, public service and other missions, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva announced Monday.
The athletic department has contributed a total of $43.5 million to the LSU-Baton Rouge campus over the past five fiscal years.
LSU
I hope this answers your question.

So far, I'm holding up pretty darn good.

I wasn't try to stir anything up, I am quite familiar with how it works. I've read the financial reports of nearly every SEC school. UF is run by a private entity as well, the UAA who operates every facility but basketball and has donated at least $6 million back to UF every year for the last 25.
I apologize if it came off as an attack on LSU, I am simply curious about people's feelings on the subject as it is a frequent point of debate within UF circles.

I suppose this list is relevant to the discussion as well:
LINK
Please note that the previously stated figure of $10 million that the LSU AD transfers to the university is treated as an "Expense" by the athletic department.

Then I'm genuinely curious as to how you came up with a debt figure of $200 million for the LSU Athletic Department in light of this statement...

I really don't care about the number, I'm more interested in thoughts on the philosophy. It was a figure from another article, I've seen TAF statements from a few years ago with debt somewhere around $122 million and didn't think the $200 million was too far off so I went with it.
