How the hell do they need on this room?
With all the internet news writers out there, they issue a ridiculous amount of press badges now

They need the room for the big buffet for the media.

This may have been discussed earlier in the thread, but what's the overall feel from Kentucky fans of going with the turf versus grass in the renovation? Was it a cost/maintenance issue? Aesthetics? Just genuinely curious, as I was a little surprised to see it. The project looks fantastic overall.
Turf is an unknown for UK since we've never used it. It sure looks good.
Problems with natural grass at our latitude were listed by Jagd Tiger. It can be playable but look horrible after a couple of freezes.
UK has done a great job over the years maintaining the natural grass but I think Mark Stoops and Mitch Barnhart decided to make a switch to the better-looking and better-performing field turf in conjunction with the massive renovations.
Specifically, Stoops has said that he likes to practice as much as possible in the stadium and the field turf will offer unlimited access. With natural grass it took a while to dry out enough for the players to get on it.

Please tell me yall aren't making the same mistake as LSU and putting up a metal sun shade.
There won't be a metal sun shade.

Agreed. I had/have the same concern. I think a brick/concrete facade would stand the test of time much better. Contemporary designs aren't a good idea for stadium exteriors.
The facade is Kentucky limestone that's quarried locally. I guess you have to know that limestone comes in different colors (Indiana limestone is very gray, for example) to appreciate the use of the material in this fashion.
I don't think a contemporary look was the objective but I can understand why it might appear that way in photos. Hopefully, when you come to visit the stadium will seem more intimate than most contemporary designs tend to be.

I realize that ya'll deal with that issue a lot more than we do in Tiger Stadium. That said, we do get our cold weather, even snow from time to time...
quote:
The LSU grounds crew also prepares for cold weather as well.
"As the temperature starts to drop, we cover the field with blankets in the evening so that we can manipulate the plant to think that it is warmer because the air temperature around the plant and the soil stays hot," Fasbender said. "Any Bermuda grass that doesn't have that blanket on it would start to slow down a little bit."

Just to be clear, if I was the AD at UK (or Mizzou), I would make the same call they did and go with the turf. Just makes more sense to me.

We're so glad to have Mizzou with us here in the Upper South. It's nice to be able to commiserate with them about common issues such as the weather.

I think so....but I get what WeeWee is really talking about. He hates that every side of Tiger Stadium is different from the other.
I share his pain...

Ain't nothing wrong with that.
I think it looks pretty slick from inside. We just spent nearly a half billion, and there's still not perfect symmetry. That's going to happen anytime you don't build from scratch.

I have no clue what's going in over here:

And the two year, absolutely massive overhaul of Kyle Field is almost complete.
Hard to believe. What a massive accomplishment.

I would like one of those press badges. Go eat and watch the game and type some bs.
They must be planning on inviting the entire wall street journal staff.

1. You are right I do hate the fact that every side is different.
2. How damn hard would it have been to just tint the damn windows like they did for the SEZ or like what A&M did at Kyle? That damn metal sun shade makes it look cheap and trashy.

I have the utmost respect for Skip as a person and coach, but holy shite he botched the new alex box and west side expansion so badly

Very much agree. A tremendous undertaking, and if TAMU ever deigns to sell the video on the whole project, from conception to completion, I'm buying it.

That's a run shade? I thought it was just something to try and dress up that side of the stadium.
