So if I'm reading that right it uses a fabric filter layer to prevent the sand (grass root substrate) from washing down into the rubber geocell drainage layer, and this is designed for golf greens. I hope they've actually tested playing football on this..
I am sure they know more than us, but IMO a putting green would not hold up well as a football field. It will end up looking like this.

yea thats why I mentioned it, you would assume they realize there is a different level of impact stress and strain on putting green than on a football field, it is the system they used on their soccer field but that's still hardly the same thing.

This may have been discussed earlier in the thread, but what's the overall feel from Kentucky fans of going with the turf versus grass in the renovation? Was it a cost/maintenance issue? Aesthetics? Just genuinely curious, as I was a little surprised to see it. The project looks fantastic overall.

And the best drainage system in CFB is now in.
Im sure they took notes from AU

game was played right after this down pour with no damage. I know we have. Everyone outside of AU was amazed at the feat.
But even though Texas is dry, yall have those monsoons that pop up and pour a ridiculous amount quickly, so you definitely need it.

I can't speak for UK fans, but I can tell you about Mizzou's turf field vs grass issues. The cost difference isn't that much when you factor the high annual maintenance cost of grass vs the full replacement cost of the turf every 10 years or so. The big issue for natural grass is the growing season and shadowing from direct light you get with stadiums, of course being further north, the grow season is shorter and since football is played late in the year that matters. Lexington is practically the same latitude as COMO so they might have the same shadow/season issue. You could always move and redesign your field of course, our has been in place for over 100 years though, so we're not just wanting to change everything.
For predictability you really can't beat turf, you can play on it in a monsoon and practice on it the next day, it's that good at what it does. Aesthetically the grass looks a little better in person, on TV it's really a wash and with turf there is no spotting issue or repair mismatch.

Last May the state got 17" of rain and it rained 24 of 31 days. We can get some serious rain.

Grass didn't have time to take. We learned our lessons.

It wasn't just that the grass didn't have time to take. It was also that the temp drainage system used last year was not enough to handle the crazy rainfall, and, in hindsight, they used the wrong grass. They went with a cheaper option since it was going to just be one year, got the crazy rain, and it resulted in the turf embarrassment.

This has been bugging me for awhile but I haven't asked. Is the camera off center or are the sidelines not even?

The sidelines will be even. The camera is either off-center or at a slight angle. They move it around from time to time.

Thanks I figured that. It was just messing with my OCD today.

The view from college football's nicest press box is outstanding. Sure its a little high, but when your a good 100+ rows up, that aint too bad at all.

My freshman year. Man that game was so much fun. Literally didn't have to go get a coke cause I could collect enough rain water to make a whiskey water. Tasted so damn good. Ruined my phone, wallet, and I'm sure other things but never had more fun in the rain.
