I really don't see where people are coming from saying that Herman isn't leaving for anywhere but Texas. I understand hating LSU, but there's no denying it's a top 10 job. With Les' buyout shrinking substantially, we could probably offer 6 million a year too.

If I'm Herman I'd rather go to LSU than to Texas. Texas might have the money and the facilities but it all comes with baggage. The boosters have way too much power over the program. LSU may have less money but their facilities are good and the recruiting grounds are very fertile. The biggest plus though? LSU would give him total control of the program - something Texas wouldn't be able to do.

The facilities will follow if they get the Big XII bid, but they have a decent history from their old SwC days in football and basketball. They had a Heisman winner just a couple years before the SWC started breaking up.
Any school that gets an invite will have the facilities Hell BYU already has them. Colorado State is building a gorgeous new stadium. As for their history that counts for jack. Its all about markets and footprints. Houston is already in the Big XII footprint

All true. Plus while the academic side is getting screwed by the government, it's not like LSU's AD isn't loaded. We have the money to give les the largest staffing budget in college football (though he squanders it), and we came up with 20 mill quickly to buy him out last fall

I think you're dead wrong about that.
The alternatives are even less attractive.

Saban will. E at Alabama at least 10 more years!

Bama made $6.5 million by routing USC. For a really good coach $5 million is worth it.
If all the USC earnings went to Saban. We only have to pay him 500,000 for the rest of the year.

From what i saw yesterday, Houston doesnt look to be hurting talent wise. Im sure being in Texas they have some Ppl with some deep pockets as well.

I just cant see Texas allowing this.
Houston in a P5 conference with a coach like Herman and a billionaire booster willing to open up the wallet? People keep saying aTm is a sleeping giant...Houston would be a fricking juggernaut.

If Houston gets into the Power5, Hermann likely stays there for 1 more year. With that 5 million bonus he'll be making around 8-9mill for 1 year. That is more than Saban

There is less pressure in Houston with the same amount of money. Why leave?
He doesn't have to play the SEC competition and will have an easier road to the playoffs.

I would love for LSU to scoop him up. He is building something special over there

I hear ya.
And usually I'd agree.
But by all accounts, the City of Houston is pulling out all the stops to (hypothetically) wine & dine the B12.
And UTex is looking to smooth the ruffled feathers of Houston business leaders, caused by its campus expansion into Houston.
It's kind of a perfect storm.
I just don't see too many (any?) better options for new B12 members.

Which is the reason I think he'll stay.
Just my .02

Do you think Houston going to the Big 12 and keeping Herman would have a significant negative impact on aTm?
Posted on 9/4/16 at 3:53 pm to DBU
It's a good question.
It would certainly make "things" more challenging for us.
But iron sharpens iron, right?
As a Houston homer, I'd just like to see more local players stay home, rather than heading off to Oklahoma.
Either way, I guarantee you that both Sumlin and Strong are very aware of Herman's success at UH.

If Texas has all this $$,has great facilities and is so much better than -insert mame here- how come they struggle to land a top tier HC???
I mean its Texas right? Listening to you guys HCs should just be waiting by their phones clamoring for a ring with a bag packed.
sorry for the rant, just tired of all the "If we want him we can have him bs from the fans of some of these schools."
Spot on. I think anyone coming into a job will weigh many factors, some of which are never mentioned by sportswriters and the like. I'm sure the fan base weighs some into consideration. The athletic director staff probably weighs a good amount into a decision for a coach to move to a certain program. As well as the realistic outlook of the donors in the program. I'd say that weighs a lot into consideration. You can have the greatest facilities, recruiting grounds and $10 million a year, but if the donors and AD aren't going to give you the opportunity to make the necessary changes in a program to right the ship, the job won't be touched with a ten foot poll. They were calling for Charlie Strong's head after a single season at Texas. Hell, even before the season was over some of the fans were calling for him to be removed.
Far too often the fan bases think they can just wave a magic salary number under the nose of a coach and he will come running. Yeah, that seems to be working just swimmingly in places like Texas, USC and Miami. Sometimes it takes an extended period in time to clear out the rot within a program (especially in the case of Texas) and the donors, AD and fans have to understand Rome wasn't built in a day especially in the age of instant gratification. Tennessee is a prime example of that as we are still sometimes feeling the effects of Kiffin and Dooley this season.

It would impact a lot of programs

I hear you. I think it'd be bad for LSU too. We all seem to be dipping into the Houston pool and a CFP bound Houston might change that.
