You asked about why Auburn got hit with a post season ban, tv ban and scholarship reduction.
Alabama got it's own NCAA justice for something that wasn't nearly as bad as Auburn during the Dye era.

Au's head coach and athletic director at the time was involved as well, and got caught lying on national tv.

Do you really think the 2 situations are similar? Alabama found out and self reported a small loan that has already been repaid, immediately suspended the player and soc assistant, waited for the ncaa to clear. Ramsey had audio tapes of coaches and booaters describing an extensive system of paying players

This is in fact the only instance of a current player accepting an impermissible benefit, it's very similar to what happened to LSU a couple years ago, or with AJ Green at Georgia who got a 4 game suspension, or with Marcell Dareus who got a 4 game suspension.
This isn't anything like the widespread pay for play Auburn got busted for, and it's a different era now.
This thread won't end up how you imagined it going.

ended up 2 games.

Ramsey solicited money for play and all denied and hid it.
Dix repaid the amount he took, accepted responsibility and went through the NCAA to get reinstated.
So if AU had of just come clean after getting caught we would have been ok?

Correct, two totally different situations.
Posted on 10/21/13 at 1:44 pm to RandySavage
Probably not, as one was a small amount that was repaid, and the other was pay for play and involved the head coach/athletic director.

Beleive me , the NCAA doesn't hand out a 2 game suspension for a major violation.
The toothless NCAA will not punish teams that cooperate with major punishments.

For starters Bama self reported , Auburn didn't.
Ok, that's more of what I'm looking for.

Secondly , Auburn was paying players to make plays.
WTF is Clinton-Dix getting paid for? I bet if James Perkins in the Marketing school went and asked for money he would be told to F off.

No, but it would have helped, since the biggest hit on Auburn was the dreaded "Lack of Institutional Control" charge. That's the killer, and what cost Dye his job and made the sanctions so severe.

So basically all you're doing is trolling?

Ha Ha was dumb in this situation because the NCAA grants money for emergency situations like he had.

He realizes he screwed up. He did his penance.

an Auburn coach was recorded giving Ramsey money to feed his wife and child as Ramsey was basically crying to him begging for the help.
There's a little more to it than that. Crying and begging lol.

AJ Green sold a jersey and I may be wrong but wasn't Dareus suspended for dealing with an agent? Those are two totally different things than a player receiving payments for someone on the football staff.

So, you don't even know the situation? Not saying it was right, what was done, but he wasn't pay for play.
In legitimate news..
The NCAA is expected to announce a decision Tuesday in its investigation of the Miami athletic program, according to a source

So the bama football program would have given that money to anyone on campus that needed it?

NCAA is a joke..... They are all over the map on punishment.... Looking forward to the day we can finally tell them to F#uck off....

It's ok to give out money to players as long as they supposedly pay it back? It's cheating in 1992 but not in 2013?
Several factors make the situations different:
1) The amount - the amount accepted is less than $500 which, precedence shows, warrants a 2-4 game suspension in today's NCAA environment.
2) The disclosure - I believe the NCAA found out about the AU thing and AU may not have been as cooperative in 1991 as they were in 2010. In HaHa's case, the issue was self investigated and self reported.
3) The repayment - HaHa provided records to indicate he repaid the loan prior to the season
4) The Cooperation - as mentioned above, I believe (though an AU fan can correct me if wrong) that AU didn't cooperate with the investigation in the Ramsey case. (kind of like Bama's lack of cooperation in the Langham case in 1993)
