Honest question about NCAA hearings

Has “what about them?” Or “Everybody does it” ever been an effective defense with the NCAA to a coach being caught on tape talking about the monetary offers he’s made to prospective players?

The NCAA hasn’t done shite to a major program since Ohio State’s bowl ban.

The NCAA let Auburn cut off their balls ten years ago and I believe they're still on display at the entrance to Jordan-Hare.

They are not a defense but if that card gets pulled the NCAA can (and has) use that to spring board new investigations.

NCAA can’t just ignore infractions as their job is to enforce these rules, whether we agree with them or not. If they knowingly ignore them without reasoning, it could lead to corruption accusations and investigations.
