He just committed, DE(6-5,230) offers from Arkansas, Miss St and Ole Miss, Tenn and others.

I follow Mississippi State recruiting very closely and I never have heard of this kid or read anything on him. If we did indeed offer him it's news to me.

Oh I agree. No one is going to lock down Memphis. Its too big of a city in the middle of SEC country. I'm just saying that we are excited we are actually setting up camp there again after a long break and getting quality guys with legit offers.

The last time we signed three out of Memphis they were class fillers that we scrambled to add who were ranked N/R, N/R and 2* in the final rankings.

Rivals has shown him with an MSU offer for months. Probably just wasn't interested. Doesn't mean you didn't offer at some point in time.

for those that you have gotten so far.

I know that TN offered the DE you got today, but had not seem to be pursuing him that aggressively at the present.

They have been after Dawson though. I have heard time and time again, that the people around him want him to go to Ole Miss and that he commit there at any time. Some TN mods had said that TN was in good with him. IMO, they have a little chance with him if they can get him to camp next week. I would still guess that he goes to Ole Miss.

I am not sure that TN will pull any kids out of Memphis this year. Outside of Dawson, it appears that only kid left that TN has that much interest in atp is Redmond. I believe he is set to announce after going to TN camp this week. Rumors have been abound for him, so who really knows where he is headed.

Dooley has been after some Memphis kids, but has seem to just assume to go after the ATL area more agressively because there is more talent there and it is only 3-3.5 hrs away vs. 6 from Memphis.

There's always offers out there you don't know about, but he does indeed claim a Miss St offer, and has for a good while now.

Thought you would want to know one of your beloved and sucky Jenks players was in BR today.

quote:

Not many other prospects along the defensive front today. Ashton Henderson, a squatty defensive tackle from Jenks, OK was the best inside player there and it didn't exactly look like he was going to get an offer from his performance today. It will be interesting to see which linemen stick around for the rest of camp.

At least he is trying. Henderson isn't going to end up in the SEC or BCS college football probably, but good to see he is trying.

I'll take a kid from ETx all day long. Playing a Longview schedule is the real deal.

I'm not happy with Sherm and Co. on passing on this kid.

Hawkins may be raw, but he's a burner, and the kid is coachable. Petrino can coach, and I expect Hawkins to be a serious threat in the coming years on Special Teams and as a downfield option on the outside.

Most ETx kids are going to be raw, but will have enormous upside.

Congrats on picking up this kid.

Also Hunter Henry. Not much coming out of LR this year, but next couple of years will pick up.

Would be a nice problem to have. I am liking the renewed interest in Memphis by both the football and basketball teams.

Petrino is doing exactly what he said he would do. He basically said we are getting back into Northern Louisiana, Memphis, Mississippi and Texas along with the Tulsa Area.

That is exactly how Frank Broyles recruited. It won't happen over night but with his contract length and what he is building it's slowly panning out.

Alabama, Ole Miss, and even LSU recruit the area better than Arkansas ever has.

Ever, I highly doubt that. People seem to forget we used to play 4 games in Little Rock which is a stones throw for Memphis back in the day.

As for the 90's and 2000's we haven't done much in Memphis except for a lot of basketball talent then that dired up. We are back in the area now.
