Congrats... rooted for Vandy as I have known one the team members and her family for a long time.
Heard today that on the heels of his performance at the MS/AL AllStar game, Fred has had a bunch of schools reach out, including several other SEC schools.

re: How is Pat Summitt doing these days?

As an aside, I can speak from experience on two things 1. the LV academic program/requirements were exactly as advertised (actually beyond what you might've heard) - no bull or exaggeration 2. Pat cared deeply about her girls. Contrary to myth she wasn't the screamer people think. She was tough and exceptionally demanding but players wanted to please her. And she cared deeply about them all.

Both of these are summed up nicely. Not only did she care deeply about her players, but she cared about people in general. That on court glare was scary as hell, but off the court she was nice as can be.... at least to myself and others that were working around the department while students.

Yeah grey shirting is not ideal because of what ifs. What if I don't go on scholarship after a year. what if I could start else where.
And also paying for the first year is an unwanted burden. Unless he can get a pail grant and mtag or similar grants and scholarships to cover it..
Did ole miss put him in touch with prospective schools that you know?
I would think Memphis, Arkansas state or Mizzou, or Juco like NW. Ms State maybe, but I think they are full at Lb, and Tennesse is overloaded with commits. If he has the grades vandy would be a nice situation.
I'm from desoto county I feel for him.

I know that Mizzou, Memphis, and some smaller schools (like an Ark State) had been contacting him over the past year to keep tabs..based off what he had told me a while back. However, he really did not engage bc Ole Miss was the school he wanted. Its why he jumped at the offer a year ago.

Outside of that, I have heard there has been some back tracking the last few days and the lead recruiter (not sure of the name) may have some egg on his face so to speak bc his stories are not adding up nor are they consistent person to person. TTFWIW though, because that did not come straight from the kid or his coaches....that was just some fodder I heard around town.

Hope they kid can have a good showing at the All-Star game this weekend, but I believe he was out just over a month with a small injury and illness, so not sure what shape he might be in for this particular game.

would assume he had everything lined up to graduate in May, most high school seniors should be preparing that way.
Very unfortunate that the staff didn't see him as a fit anymore, he was committed prior to his senior year. They may have felt he hadn't developed enough.. Who knows.
What is known is the roster will be short on LBs next year and the team will need experienced lbs because unfortunately there won't be time to develop. They will probably need to bring in another Juco LB as well.

I hope the young man finds somewhere he can shine, and does great things in his career.

Kid is in a sticky situation... Since he completely shut down his recruitment, he would have to find another school that a) has a need and wants him this late in the game 2) find a school that he is comfortable at as well.

I don't see him grey shirting and taking the chance that Ole Miss could dump him again next year....just a guess on my part. I would imagine he can either find a suitable fit or go the JUCO route.

Didn't come to any camps or games, despite it
Being a 1 hour drive.

This is not true...I know this kid personally...

From the day he committed, he shut down his recruitment, even when other schools came calling. He went to most of Ole Miss home games this season as an unofficial visitor. I believe he missed 1-2 games including the Egg Bowl towards the end of the season due to an illness and another obligation. He was in frequent contact with his primary recruiter and has everything lined up to graduate in May as planned all along.

Btw... they had Alfred Dickens '14, same school, grey shirt this year...kid was at the local CC....they have dropped him as well.

If he had refused to camp and had not visited at all during the season and was looking around, as Ole Miss wants you to believe, then why not cut ties earlier? Why do they still want him to grey shirt, but not want him to look around between now and signing day if all that was true?

If Tennessee can win the opening RD, they will have a shot.

Kendall Rogers of PG said basically said TN needs 1-2 wins in Hoover to make it. Cited some good OOC wins as helping them.

Tyndall needs to have some semblance of success in year one. This is a play for Rhett just as much as it is a desire to have Pinkins.

Thought he already signed
Saw a pretty reliable poster on another board say he heard earlier in the evening (and he had alluded at that time) that Marquette may be moving a different direction.

My guess is that Cuonzo lost out on the job but probably parlayed that into trolling Hart for a raise.

This is the exact scenario we feared with Dooley in '12, that talent would give him one season that would look like he's turning it around and we'd be stuck with him for another 2 years.

We dodged the bullet once. We were not so lucky the 2nd time.

Yep

Yeah he was a teammate of mine, so I would keep up with him. He seemed like he was all-Tennessee.

No idea how accurate, but I have heard some strong rumors that mother either now works for Fedex or got a nice promotion..lol

I was honestly shocked when he picked Memphis.

Apparently his HS coach was shocked the day of the announcement as well, thinking the kid was TN bound.
I think Hendrix is a Vol in the end, but if he makes the visit you just never can know 100%. Jones is supposed to get back in house with him and the family next week so that is in TN favor.

I am betting Barnett shuts it down after this weekend and does not visit Mizzou.

Apparently Mizzou, as well as other teams, were telling Barnett and Hendrix that UT did not think they were good enough bc TN continues to recruit more DL....mostly because they are thin there and continued to have some interested parties....it seems that TN decided against bringing in 1-2 more DL prospects that were possibly gonna be hard to pull so that they could combat the pitches of other schools.

s this why Booth opened back up?

He was to be an EE, but TN already has so many EEs lined up they needed to make room for Malone to be an EE....

Booth essentially said he wanted to find a place that he could still EE.
quote:

He any good? Haven't heard much about him.

Reliablae poster on VQ said that the staff knew a few weeks ago the staff doubted they could keep hi and the other Juco WR that is/was committed. They liked Malone better than either (not that they did not like the JUCOs) and decided to go all in on him and not waste time with the others bc they felt better about landing Malone than keeping the other two.
I have seen this kid kick multiple times over the last few years and I know some of his coaches. Seems like a good kid and he has been consistent throughout his career.

Never have gotten the impression that he is one of these kickers with a booming leg, but I think he is fairly consistent inside the 40.

Was surprised he flipped from UVA. The MUS kids tend to stick with their initial picks. I had heard that he had several family members that were UVA grads so I assumed that was the main reason for picking them in the first place.

Good pick up
While we are talking about facilities....That Memphis team that beat Ole Miss..... They hosted the CUSA tournament, however, since their facility is abysmal, they played it at the MUS/Hutchison (private schools in east Memphis) Tennis courts.

He had two players go pro last year. Tough to recover from that immediately. He's taken us to the NCAA finals twice. Methinks he's okay.

That was the season before last. His two top freshman from a year ago have not lived up to their billing yet. They have a stud for next year from Nashville, but he was diagnosed with Cancer back in the fall unfortunately.
