All national titles are mythical before the playoff as it was determined by human error and bias.
1909 was a joke. But Arkansas had every right to split the national title in 77 with Notre Dame as they lost to a 5-6 Ole Miss team. Arkansas lost to Texas that involved a controversial penalty on a QB. Also it helped that Arkansas destroyed Oklahoma in the biggest upset in bowl history 31-6.
