Latest from James Spann's Weather Blog:

quote:

I don’t think I have ever heard a tornado watch referred to as a long lead time, long duration, particularly dangerous situation tornado watch before. But I have now in the latest mesoscale discussion from SPC.

That sounds bad…and it is bad. It will be issued for much of North and Central Mississippi, possibly into West Central Alabama.

The SPC is using terms like volatile to describe the situation…calling for supercells with strong to potentially violent tornadoes this afternoon and early evening.

The airmass over Central Mississippi has rapidly warmed and moistened. The same think is in progress across Central Alabama. This is raising the octane of the fuel. The spark is there in lift being provided by heating and an approaching trough and cold front. Very strong upper level winds will provide the necessary wind shear for supercells and tornadoes, especially across the high risk area over eastern Mississippi and North and Central Alabama.

They are southern storm chasers. I started following them yesterday because they were the only ones who had sound with their live feed in Arkansas.

They are southern, funny, and know their shite and I am now addicted to watching them.
