Yes Alabama would love for LSU to leave to make their sorry easy schedules even easier!!!
Your just being obvious putting LSU into everything, get a life a worry about Tuscaloser!!!

OU has a big following in dallas

Adding OU would make the SEC far more competitive, there's no getting around it.

IMO, OU really screwed the pooch here.
For example, if OU had secured the 14th spot in the SEC instead of Missouri, they could probably have neutralized A&M as any possible threat to them (OU wins history/prestige arguments by a landslide) while they reap the benefits A&M is getting now ($$$ and the"I want to play in the SEC" recruiting advantage for those valuable Texan recruits).
The Longhorns would have to choose between the Sooners at the Cotton Bowl or the Aggies on Thanksgiving - they could not afford for their fans to lose all 3 of their great rivalry games (perhaps they would have ditched both for Arkansas, but I doubt it). They would have kept OU (frick Aggy) and now OU has it's #1 game still on the calendar and can look forward to playing in the vaunted SEC West.
As others have alluded to, I think the level of politics that kept A&M and texas from parting ways in the 90s to their preferred destinations has also kept OU in the Big 12. TV Markets and $$ rule now (for better or worse) and Oklahoma just doesn't have the market size. But then again, the B1G took Nebraska.
It was probably the best scenario for A&M that Aggies joined the SEC and the Sooners stayed behind. They are locked into the Big 12 until the GOR expires or texas blows up the conference.

none of it really matters, honestly. i work with a bunch of alumni, and they, along with people on the local sports talk radio, seem to think that OU would go to the PAC 12. some of their reasoning's are stupid, but they seem pretty adamant about heading out west, should they decide to leave the Big XII.

IF.. LSU, OU, Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M and OSU were in a league together it would certainly be huge a conference and money maker. Stick back in Nebraska and Missouri, you have a very powerful conference.
However, it didn't happen and LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M and Missouri are right at home. The SEC was smart to solidify this with Texas A&M and Missouri.

i don't see the SEC saying "man, i sure would hate to add a team like OU, we just couldn't handle having another good team in the conference". at the end of the day, OU brings too much to the table, just to let them walk away....but again, based on what I've heard, they aren't coming to the SEC.

No way they'd consider it.
I'd hate to lose LSU too. That's a fun game and they're one of the stronger programs in the conference.

Tbh, I'm surprised they elected to basically hold serve during the whole thing. If they could have extricated themselves cleanly from oSu, I think they would have bolted for the Pac.

It all comes back to this. When you start thinking about realignment purely from a markets-driven perspective (as all conference commissioners do), the appeal of "let's add [insert notable CFB powerhouse] because it'd be awesome!" loses much of its luster.

then why does LSU play ooc teams like oregon, oregon state, wisc, TCU, WVU, asu? why does bama play WVU, vt, and why does Tennessee play ou?

i hate ou as much as anyone, but even i can admit, they would be a huge addition to the conference.

I'm still waiting for a rebuttal from the Aggie posters. They told us that OU wouldn't add any markets.

In what galaxy are Oklahoma city and Tulsa better television markets than NY, LA, or Chicago

yep, ou's alumni base is big. i think the a&m fans hate ou so much, they really can't comprehend the fact that ou would make the conference better. i hate ou too, the fans here are delusional, and arrogant, hell some of them are flat out assholes, but at the end of the day, if ou came to the sec, and said "we want in", i just don't see the sec say "thanks, but no thanks".

If NYC citizens aren't passionate & don't have their TV set on cfb games then it definitely matters.

quote:that's not it at all. I could give zero fricks about OU, they would just add nothing to the conference.

They hitched their wagon to Texas. We'll see how that works out I guess

That's not true at all. If you add a conference footprint, you will have the network in it regardless of how much that state watches college football. 3.3% of tvs in Tulsa watch college football? Cool, that isn't worth what 2% of NY tvs are
