As an Auburn fan, I am not a big fan of the HUNH to watch, but I think that someone will figure out how to stop it without a rule change.

I'm not a big fan of it either but, it is like every other new fangled offense. One day, some hot new DC will have the answer and the pendulum will swing back a bit.

Yeah...except it's not.
In the NFL, Kelly averaged 70.7 plays per game this year with the Eagles.
In his last season at Oregon, Kelly ran 82.8 plays per game.
That's a helluva of a difference for "hurry up being hurry up".

Teams can't snap the ball until the officials signal that they're ready. All 32 teams have been made aware of this, Blandino told the Journal. He added that Kelly did not show any "overconcern" when he was briefed. "They (the Eagles) had questions about what the parameters were going to be," Blandino told the Journal. "It's going to be different from college."
"Coach Kelly will not be playing as fast in Philadelphia as he did at Oregon," former NFL referee Gerald Austin, who is now an instructor and an ESPN analyst, told the Journal.

I'm against hurry up and I don't give a damn if my team runs it or not.
It eliminates a ton of strategy out of the game and makes the game worse over all.
The new "saftey" rules also take the teeth away from the defense.
There's a reason passing records are being broken like crazy in the NFL the last few years, it's a totally different game now.
I don't want f'ing arena football.

Please don't make excuses about how their offenses are different when they run hurry up. Hurry up is hurry up - and some offense coaches/players can run it better than others. Making rules to stop them is another step towards the wussification of america
Go watch soccer if you want a game with no substitutions.

Oregon hasn't pushed that pace in forever. They saw something on film with FSU that made them go hyper speed. That is one of the least disciplined teams I've seen in a long time and those big uglies were huffin' and puffin' in the 2nd quarter.

I seriously wonder what these idiots would have said about the forward pass. Really unfair to the defense.
Posted on 1/7/15 at 8:24 pm to guschamp84
Receivers shouldn'y run option route either. Defenses shouldn't blitz. That is too dangerous. Cut blocking should be illegal. Teams shouldn't be able to run the triple option. WTF.
The DL should be more in shape than any OL. It should be harder for the offense to lineup faster.

You're right. What was I thinking, I overlooked the fact that you know more that Kirk Herbstreit.

Well while we are at it, let's let OL be able to hold jerseys, receivers can legally push off, multiple players can go in motion at once, and you don't have to be set before the ball is snapped.
That argument goes both ways.
It's not about saftey for me. Football players know what they are signing up for. I just would prefer not to watch a game that is 70-63 with 1000 yards of offense. I'm all for change and evolution of the game, I just don't like this change because it makes the game less enjoyable as a product. I think what teams are doing right now is perfectly fine and if I were a coach I would be doing the same thing. I'm happy that Alabama has started to exploit it. I just think there needs to be a discussion about whether it is really in the best interest of the game.
But I'm also one who likes to watch no-hitters in baseball, so heck, I don't know.

The way you solve the issue is allowing the defense the ability to substitute on their own within a set time frame, the first 3-5 seconds of the play clock. Revert to old rule in final 3 minutes of each half.
i.e. "Pace should only be allowed when *I* need/want it!"
How convenient!

Why are we not allowing offensive players to hold, or get a running start at the LOS?

Forget all the sissy talk and "it's not fair" stuff. I'm not gonna cry about where football seems to be headed, but I have to admit I really don't like it.
It takes less skill to be successful now. And that will be even more apparent as we move forward.
There are absolutely benefits to all of this. But I'd be lying if I said I'm really excited about where some of these offenses are headed.
Fwiw, of all the teams who do it, I like and respect Auburn's schemes the most. Gus is really adaptive and isn't afraid to pound the shite out of defenses.

It is in the best interest of the game. People want to variety. CFB is better than ever because you have HUNH teams and team like KSU and Stanford. The product is very eclectic.

For now, but most every program is now moving to some version of the HUNH because of the crazy advantage it provides the offense with. Even traditional pro-style systems are changing. You're seeing it with Alabama. You're seeing it with Ohio State. You're seeing it with USC. The list goes on.

There were stretches against Alabama where OSU literally couldn't move the ball. Those offenses hinge on huge plays and unfortunately Alabama gave up huge play after huge play this year. With guys like Ragland and Landon going in and out, Alabama wasn't anywhere close to disciplined enough to stop OSU consistently.

Why am I not surprised this numbnuts doesn't know the difference between the spread and the HUNH. It's not like it hasn't been discussed ad nauseam here.
