In the past they would be behind Auburn for sure and Arky maybe in the pecking order, but given where Lane is leaving the program I think they are much more attractive than either of those two openings.

Good one

Am I the only one who thinks Lane is waaaay overrated and this is not the big splashy rub-it-in-your-face hire that many think it is?

He’s definitely had some favorable schedules over the years. That said, he’s beaten Georgia and won a lot of football games at a program that usually doesn’t win a lot of football games. I think he’s an elite recruiter and an elite gameday guy. I do think he has to be at the right program to be successful. I guess you could say that about most coaches though.

I agree at least. He’s not a slam dunk and could be fired in four years from whatever school he decides to coach if he fumbles a critical component of his roster. Florida fans just want someone as close to Spurrier as they can get after a series of goofballs with no charisma that never had a chance of working out. Include me in this. But he’s just a strong stylistic fit and we greatly overvalue him for that reason.

I also completely understand why Ole Miss wouldn’t want to lose their coach and start over. So they overvalue him as well. But I don’t know why all these other teams seem to rate him so highly. He’s had very favorable schedules. It is reasonable to assume that plays a big role in his record and by extension, the perception of his ability.

Doesn't Golding want it? I think that is the plan if Kiffin bails...
