If we're talking about any time, Kentucky has started a ton of true freshmen QBs recently:

2008 - Randall Cobb (UF, MSU, UGA, Vandy)
2009 - Morgan Newton (last 8 games)
2011 - Maxwell Smith (MSU, Ole Miss, Vandy, UGA)
2012 - Patrick Towles (Vanderbilt)
2012 - Jalen Whitlow (SCAR, MSU, UT)

The only one who won any games was Morgan Newton, who went 5-3 with a bowl loss to Clemson.

What were some numbers for these guys?

In Allen's starts last year.

Record: 3-2
TDs: 13
INTs: 5
Yards: 1,058

Kind of hit or miss. 3 good to great games, 2 not so great games.

I want to say Brodie Croyle maybe started at least one game his freshman year, but he may have redshirted. I can't remember and don't feel like looking it up.

Jay Barker redshirted as well I'm pretty sure, but he started almost every game in 91.

Only 2 I can think of that may have. I know Tyler Watts redshirted. He would be the only other possible one over the last 20 years.

Mustain- We had a good record with him at qb, everyone knows the story HDN/Gus/Mitch's mom/FOIA etc. He went from hero to zero (dealing fake drugs) maybe now back to decent I have no idea.

Urgh. Just thinking about the complete debacle of the Nutt/Malzahn meltdown is enough to start the day off wrong. Arkansas was poised to take a step forward in the SEC and within a year it all had collapsed.

Only the John L. Smith "Smile" season is worse.

Brodie Croyle redshirted in 2001. Started his first game as a redshirt freshman in 2002 at Arkansas.

Just like Alabama was the National champs in 1973 when they lost to undefeated Notre Dame? Or in 1978 when they lost to USC at home who ended the year with a better record to boot? Or in 1964 when they won it with an inferior record to Arkansas(undefeated) who beat the team they lost to? Look, just because some authoritative figure says something to be the case does not make it true. Auburn was undefeated in 1993 and recognized with an MNC. FSU lost during the regular season.

To start the season, or during the season? 17 year old true freshman Walter Lewis was 3rd-string but started for Bama against Notre Dame in 1980 due to injuries to the 1st and 2nd stringers. Bama got shut out.

Stan White - went on to start 45 straight games (90-93). 11-0, MNC as a senior (Ramsey Year). 8-3-1 Freshman Year.

ETA: I think he was a RedShirt Freshman

In the '92 season Auburn fans openly wore Nix for Quarterback t-shirts. It was embarrassing. Stan shut them up the next season leading Auburn to an undefeated season.

Coming from a Bama fan who probable owns a shirt with the 1941 NC on it, this comment is priceless. 1941, Bama lost to MSU and Vandy. Was ranked 20th in the AP poll, but ONE guy said they were NC and they claim it.

Yeah, I was more talking about a true FR being the starter from game 1.

Right on, thanks for clarifying.
