Has there been even one hospitalization of a D-1 student athlete?

I know a lot of schools are not releasing their numbers.... but Clemson has had 40 or so kids test positive. Kansas State had around 40 I believe..... LSU had quite a few, etc.
Does anyone know of a single hospitalization? I would love to know these numbers.

I haven't heard of one. But because of their age and health, they are extremely unlikely to have complications from the virus anyway.
I expect if all 10k-ish FBS players became infected, you'd have maybe 50-100 hospitalizations and probably a couple of deaths.

Interesting. Any word on prognosis, or was this a while back?

Idk, not a lot of details shared by our insider for obvious reasons.
We had one case when everyone reported back, then had 5 or 6 cases including 2 fairly serious symptomatic cases, with one likely requiring hospitalization. Was enough to reportedly scare Yves Pons into potentially forgoing his last year here and playing overseas when they start back up in September.
This was maybe 2/3 weeks ago can’t remember when he posted it

I understand privacy laws make it more difficult for schools to announce too many details. But it seems like the NCAA should proactively make a rule that every NCAA school should be required to report weekly updates on how many of their student athletes have tested positive, required hospitalization, etc. so they can build the data sets that can help schools make difficult decisions.
The NCAA could then update the public weekly on the numbers they are seeing.

So far in the state of Alabama, there have been 10,921 confirmed cases for kids aged 0 to 24 with zero fatalities. To my knowledge there is no data on the hospitalization rate by age group.
Regardless, it is extremely rare for this age group to face serious symptoms. It seems like this type of information needs to be made available so the NCAA and the individual schools can make informed decisions about whether or not to play.

There is no data to back this up. This is complete bullshite.
There has only been around 100 deaths in the 15-24 age group in the entire country. That includes everyone, including those with co-morbidities.
With the health, physical fitness and excellent care given to college football players, very few would require hospitalization and likely no deaths.
I have children that age and know of dozens of positive tests and none even had symptoms.

I thought I had heard something about a Baylor athlete getting hospitalized due to suspicions of Covid-19. Never knew if it was confirmed or not.

They should hold out any player with co-morbities, such as asthma and diabetes.
Healthy people under 40 have basically been unaffected by this disease.

So after doing a bit more digging...
Alabama has had 10,921 cases for kids 0 to 24 in age and zero fatalities. There is no data that I can find on hospitalization rates.
Florida has had 58,834 cases for kids 0 to 24 in age and 13 fatalities (0.02%). The hospitalization rate for kids from 5 to 24 in age is 0.96%.
Georgia has had 8,151 cases for kids 0 to 17 in age and has just 1 fatality from the age group (0.01%). The hospitalization rate for kids 5 to 17 is 1.77%.
Texas also has zero deaths for kids 0 to 19.
The age groups of the data are not consistent from state to state, and most states don't report age demographics for hospitalizations..... but based off all the info I can find, it appears that the fatality rate for high school and college aged kids is somewhere around 0.015%, which is roughly 1 out of every 7,000 or so cases. The hospitalization rate appears to be somewhere around 1%.
But keep in mind, this is for ALL known cases. Many of these have underlying health issues and the vast majority are likely not in the type of health to be a Division 1 athlete. And since its know that the majority of this age group display few or zero symptoms, for every known positive test there are likely several others that had the virus but were never tested. So you can probably decrease these numbers significantly.
I would say its highly probable that the actual death rate for high school and college aged athletes who are in good health is probably about 1 out of every 50,000.... and the hospitalization rate is very likely around 1 in 500 or even 1 in 1,000.
Are we really going to possibly cancel an entire season of sports on those probabilities?

They will go on and on about the due diligence, experts, science, etc., and then they will quote overall death rates.
I think it's pure purposeful ignorance. They know. And they know that you know that they know. They just can't help it.

Still only one professional athlete on Earth has.
A fat arse Sumo Wrestler.
But yea...shut it all down. Makes sense.
If two players die from car accidents, will we ban all players from driving henceforth?
