The problem with CFB is that coaches can’t be as demanding as they used to be with NIL and unlimited transfers. Kids are soft now. Coaches have to find that sweet spot between drill sergeant and friend. Saban didn’t know any other way. I think that’s what makes Kirby great. Even still, the new era of CFB is chipping away at UGA a little bit every season.

Its more a culture problem at Bama.. Solid talent yet got mauled. Yesterday at the Doak was no flute.

NIL killed college football... or at least put it in a brain dead coma.

Maybe it changes with enough no talent hacks like Arch getting massive paydays, but for now it is on life support.

The massive crowds over the weekend say otherwise. It has been a great weekend of football with major upsets. I'll take that any day over dynasty football. NIL has helped level the playing field. Elite talent isn't willing to "wait their turn" anymore riding benches at Blue Bloods. Amen to that.

College football ain't going away just because you think it's terrible now.

It’s not all about coaches. Michael Jordan could be close to a tyrant at times because he was a leader that demanded excellence. There was a standard set and he expected every person that played with him to follow that standard or leave. Bama used to have players like that. All Saban had to do was manage the psychology of the team because the players policed how everyone played. There is nothing close to that at Alabama which is why the team looks so bad right now.

It's harder to build depth now but they still have more talent than anyone besides UGA and OSU. I think their 2023 team had the most blue chip players of any Saban team at Bama.

Bama went from having a coach that demanded execution perfection every day to a coach that while may be very intelligent, just doesn’t seem to push his players.

It’s like the team relaxed when Saban left, apparently that’s not a good thing.

I’ve had nice coaches and a-hole coaches, the difference was the assholes won games.

Yeah but Saban’s players knew he would bench their arse and put the next 5 star in if they didn’t give it 1000%.

Jordan basically ran the team. Do you think any personnel calls were made without his input?

Not saying KDB will suffer the same fate but this is what happens when you hire a PNW guy. See McElwain and Harsin. Too laid back and relaxed.

I agree but it took a couple years for NIL to get going hence Saban’s departure.

I think it was Saban retiring, nil doesn’t seem to be hurting Georgia.

Their starting QB beat Notre Dame tonight.

Losing players season after season absolutely has hurt a lot of teams, including Georgia.

KDB had an issue struggling with teams they were big favorites over at UDub and it looks like it's carried over to Bama so far. Saturday looked just like the OU game last year.

That’s the difference. Saban really wouldn’t have to bench a player because if a guy was on the field and not giving 1000% effort then the players themselves would have pulled that guy to the side and dealt with him. After that if he still didn’t let it all hang out they would have went to Saban demanding he be benched. That kind of leadership has been gone for a long time. That’s what made the great teams great because they always have great leaders that demand everyone follows the standard that was set before them.

I wouldn’t lump Georgia into your argument. They seem to be doing just fine outside of the endless # of traffic violations.

Georgia was setting up to make a dynasty of their own and then this NIL shite started. Georgia was setting up to make a major run and then the talent started leaving. A few injuries happen and the next thing you know a title that they should have won slips away.

Georgia had three losses last season. They had 2 losses combined the previous three seasons. Last year was their worst season since 2018. How Georgia does this season will show for sure whether it has. I think it has, they don’t have the depth as in years past.

Having that kind of leadership on the field is why all those Bama teams from 2008 till 2020 was so good. It’s like they all looked tethered to each other. Everyone knew what to do and they did it all out at a 1000%. Distractions didn’t matter because everyone was to focused on doing their jobs. If they did lose a game all it did was make them work even harder. This has been missing for a good while at Bama.

Georgia lost Carson Beck to an injury late in the season and had to play a true freshman. That’s not an NIL issue. That’s unfortunate luck.
