The closest I can think of was Bo Rein, but he died in a plane crash before he coached a single game at LSU.

Before South Carolina joined the SEC Joe Morrison passed away from a heart attack while being the HC. He’s the only one I can think of.
ETA: passed away in 1989

Bear Bryant died 28 days after coaching his last game at Alabama. Obviously not still active but it sure felt like it.

It would not surprise me if it happened in the earlier days; at Alabama the closest was Coach Bryant, who passed 4 weeks after retiring.
Also found out that Bryant wasn't the first Bama/Texas A&M coaching connection.
D. V. Graves coached at Alabama from 1911-1914 and at A&M in 1918 (plus coached basketball and baseball at both programs)

Bo Rein was indeed the last sitting SEC coach to pass away. The last sitting FBS coach to die was Randy Walker (Northwestern) in 2006.

Bear Bryant passed away a month after he last coached a game.

Leach is believed to be the first sitting FBS football coach to pass away since Northwestern’s Randy Walker in 2006, while the last sitting SEC coach to die was LSU’s Bo Rein in 1980, per Sports Illustrated.
