2014 Auburn is bigger. Way more people watching, College Gameday came to showcase Mississippi State, CBS aired it, State made it to #1.

Outside of die hard MSU fans, no one got anything out of 1980 Bama with no TV, lucky to make the 10:00 news, and a game that wasn't even in Starkville.

It’s almost been worth it to see all the memes lmfao. I love when State is relevant. One of the funnest fan bases in the SEC.

The amount of resentment you are showing is pretty pathetic

While amusing, State beat 1980 Alabama after the 1979 National Title team.

That State team went 9-3.

There's the bar for this State team.

Bama fan getting grinded.

I was at the 1980 game with my Dad. It was in Jackson.

You have to understand. Bama had a 28 game SEC winning streak, had beaten us 22 straight times and overall had a 26 game winning streak. Bama had been invincible for almost three years.

State was very good that year. We were 7-2 coming into the game.

The atmosphere during the whole game was eclectic. At the end when Bama was at our three yard line with a chance to win the game was the loudest I have ever heard a crowd. Period.
Bama QB Don Jacobs kept trying to get the Ref to stop play and the clock because of the crowd noise. The ref could do that in those days. But he did not do so and basically said play on.

Tyrone Keys forced the fumble and Billy Jackson recovered it to save the game.
But the game was not over. State had to run one play (5 seconds were left). An Bama DT slapped the ball when it was under the center creating a fumble . State recovered it at the goal line to end the game. The ref actually saw it happen and said he would have thrown a flag if Bama had recovered.

Afterwards , the Bear visited the State locker room to congratulate the State and stated the better team won that day. Very classy by him and the only instance to my knowledge that something like that has ever happened.

That will always be the greatest victory in State’s history though yesterday ranks up there very high.

Beating the defending champs on their home field is a rarity that just does not happen very often.

I remember that game. Alabama had won the last 2 national titles (78-79) and going for a third. It was like the 2013 Auburn game, in that Alabama had won the last 2 national titles (2011, 2012) and was going for a third.

Both were HUGE upsets........

The story on the left" For Collins, a sad victory", was about State player Glen Collins. His girlfriend was murdered that week. Jackson Mississippi was getting bad even back then.
