Did the NIT mean nothing or had he advanced and won the thing would it have mattered for his job security?

It is the worst loss in Alabama Basketball History.

Norfolk State would've been a signature win for Avery and likely would've saved his job

I know that loss had an impact but was he getting let go anyway with that loss or not for missing the NCAA T?

I think Auburn winning the SEC hurt Avery more. NIT was the nail in the coffin

Agree, nobody will say it, but Avery would still be there, if AU was sucking right now.

Just like when AU stepped up and got Bruce, Bama then tried to go big with Avery.

I think it's a mistake, because they are not going to do better than Avery. We just got lucky with Bruce.

Basketball has more parity than any sport, you hit any team when they are hot and you are cold and you can lose. Plus 1-2 players can make a gigantic difference in bball.

If we can't do better than the product put on the floor in February and March then I would truly and honestly prefer to just shut down the program than continue with that.

Mizzou fans would make you think that Norfolk State is a great program.

Bama and Mizzou fans will hold hands through this process.

Bruce has had some up and downs also at AU. Neither AU and UA is ever going to be a consistent contender in basketball.

K - I mean we've explained it 100 times. Avery's team didn't try. They quit. That isn't acceptable. It was time to move on.

Doubtful. Seemed like the fanbase had the pitchforks ready once it was announced they did not make the NCAA tournament.

It's not a mistake when you're paying a coach top 15 salary and he produces a mediocre product. Nothing about Avery showed that he can adjust his coaching philosophy, recruit to the needs of his team, or coach a team that improves as the season progresses.

It's a risk Bama was willing to take, cut a mediocre coach loose and see if you can draw a better coach. It's a hell of a lot better than retaining him and putting the fan base through another piss poor season.

AJ's players quit, refused to give full effort and the fan base showed how they felt about him when they refused to show up to Coleman for the post season NIT opener.

Avery lost his entire team and the fan base. That shite can't happen when the HC's pulling a top 15 salary.

Agree. Same thing happened to Chizik in 2012. Once you lose a team it's time to cut bait while the roster is still intact.
