I learned a long time ago never, say never. However, the whole thing has been an obvious ploy to lock Gus in at Auburn for a few more years. The expectation to win at Auburn isn't higher than any other decent school, the road is tougher but the expectations are the same. Any coach worth his salt isn't running from those expectations.
I never once believed we should get rid of Gus, but to act like losing to your main rivals constantly is ok is also silly. If he'd lost this year I would have been on the win or get out train next season. He has had some unfortunate injuries and inherited a mess that caused depth issues that are only now being fixed. The complaints about play calling has always been an issue of players executing...Gus has shown over time that if his players execute he can run an offense.
Again never say never, but Auburn has had commitments from 3 4* players in the last 10 days, one of which was a surprise. I doubt anyone of them commits without asking Gus about the arkie rumor, he was obviously assuring kids he was staying as long as Auburn would have him. I realize coaches lie in recruiting, but I doubt Gus would lie about this specifically or better yet I doubt he'd put himself in a position to have to lie about it.
This is about security and power. Every game Gus wins will lead to Auburn conceding him more security and more power to make decisions related to football beyond X's and O's.

This is why Gus would leave AU, you're playing for an SEC Championship, 3 weeks ago you wanted him fired.
Not because he lost to LSU, but it was his mentality about letting up and losing the game that pissed off us fans.
Gus seems to have found his role as the CEO of the staff, and letting his coordinators do their job. This seems to be working well.
And he's learned to keep the hammer down.

May be true but why isn't Auburn media reporting the same?
Gus wouldn't be smart to agree to an extension before Saturday's game. If he wins he can rake Aubie for big cash.

You have no business even speaking Auburn's name. Since he's been at AU, he's beat Arky by 18, 24, 53 and 32. He's not a idiot.
Preach brother.

quote:Yea, Gus Malzahn more than doubled the score against Bret Bielema and Arkansas 4 out of the 5 times they played. It took a 4 OT win with Bret Bielema’s best Arkansas team to beat Gus Malzahn’s worst Auburn team to date in 2015.

I’m not a huge Gus Malzahn fanboy, but he always waxes Arkansas’ arse.

Regardless of last Saturdays outcome, I hope Auburn gives Gus a raise and an extension.

Have you forgotten that conversation you had with your nephew?
I love how the Arky narrative is constantly changing.

I said I would accept him, I did not say I wanted him. In fact, Stalker, reread that post and I specifically said he was not my first choice.

It really hasn't for the majority of individuals.
I fairly sure Piggi and I have been in battles on the Arky board against him.

Y'all are going to be really mad when he doesn't have a transfer QB to lead the team.

I have been reading the Arky board about this situation. It seemed that some of your people had "inside info" on the situation.
At one time is appears that Gus may have been going to Arky..........this is when he thought that Auburn would be letting him go.
I am beginning to believe that Arky isn't Gus' "dream job". It looks like Arky was his "fallback plan".

Is the new AD in place?
I know all the waiting can be frustrating, but I would think a new AD would go a long way in securing the best coach.

You mean to tell me that internet insiders were wrong?
That doesn't seem like something that could happen.

Probably. I don’t think he gives a crap about us.
