Go here and here for some of the best defensive statistics on the web. They look at, among other things, success per play and per possession based on points scored compared to expected points.

Sorry your players sucked

Sorry the voters don't see it your way. They know who the better team is and which one got the lucky breaks on a couple of busted plays and a bobbled punt at home in the rain. Which accounted for almost 1/3 of your offense, about half your running game, and 3/5 of your points.

Just look at the OP list, who exactly is dissatisfied with the rankings YPP has indicated? It looks spot on to me.

Teams that give up yards every now and then but still make plays to keep the teams from scoring are better than ones that give up less yards but more points. Points matter more than anything else.

You only have one loss we have two and yet you only have 2 more points in the coaches poll. In fact in two weeks after a win vs Bama that will be more than enough to pass you despite having two losses. So in essence yes the voters do see it that way, but are obligated to rank a 1 loss SEC team higher than a 2 loss this late in the season.

We kicked your arse. We ran it and threw it all over you and shut it down in the fourth and you still couldnt make it competitive. Congrats on the moral victory I guess?

You will be thanking us for those 3 plays when yall are sitting with 4 losses and we are the only win yall have worth mentioning.

Florida's impressive, especially since their schedule includes two legit OOC opponents, Miami and FSU. I hate that so many stats are padded by games against cupcakes; those games shouldn't even be factored in imo, just the games against other BCS teams.

I get what you are saying with it being skewed against teams that play an uptempo offense since by virtue of the offense, your defense goes up against more plays. Some combination of Yards per play, turnovers created, and 3rd down percentage would be the best to indicate the strength of a defense.

Give it up man, you sound pathetic. Auburn has a good team. LSU played like shite and got upset by a motivated Ole Miss team. None of this changes the fact that LSU beat Auburn by 14 and the game was never in doubt.

Bama fans are probably the least in need of using stats to bolster an agenda.

This is quite true - so why do they feel so compelled to do it?

It smacks of insecurity.

Like the whole "Bamasessed" thing.

Granted, it does seem to emanate from the younger fans.
