Bama would have most likely lost to PSU in 1994. Nebraska would've been a tossup.

Bama plays SEC schedule and USC & Nebraska OOC .

Since you like comparative scores, you realize in 1977 Alabama beat Southern Cal 21-20. Notre Dame beat them 49-19.

Notre Dame destroyed #1 Texas 38-10 in the Cotton. If you think Alabama deserved a share of the '77 title, fine. They probably did. But do deny or diminish Notre Dame's 1977 squad is silly.

Comparative scores against mutual opponents only count if it favors Bama.

Also learning that Bama has never lost a game, injuries, refs, etc have allowed opponents to beat them.

And bouncing a pass into the end zone is not considered a completion in Alabama.

That 94 Nebraska team wasn't dominant like the 95 team was. The 94 Penn State team WAS dominant. Bama was undefeated in 1994, then Barker got hurt in the SECCG and we lost to UF by 1 point.

Y'all would've played #1 Nebraska in the Orange and then hoped that Oregon would beat #2 Penn State in the Rose (which they did not).

Y'all wouldn't have played Penn State because they were in the Big Ten then and had to play the Pac 10 champion (Oregon) in the Rose.

Edit: Remember, those two conferences weren't part of the Bowl Coalition/Alliance.

My point being they shouldn't have jumped Bama , especially since we trounced the team they lost to and played a very tough OOC schedule.

We beat USC , a win is a win , also we played USC early when they were number 1 and had something to play for.

Do we know if 1977 was a year USC had tons of injuries ? could matter , but a win is a win and a loss vs. a win to the same team is 2 different creatures.

And Bama destroyed Ohio St.

The SWC always lost their national title chances in bowl games , sans the 70s 80s so they were always overrated.

I wonder why ND was given the 1966 title when Bama was preseaon # 1 , never lost and outscored their opponents by like 341 to 44 ?

The northern sports writers were punishing Alabama for segregation in 1966.

The segregation thing is true. Heard many historians claim that was the 66 and 73 reason. 77 Notre Dame was a fine team but Bama did nothing to deserve being jumped on Jan 2 1978. ND knew before the Cotton Bowl if they won convincingly they would be national champs. Mal even tells the story of the Sugar Bowl when we were up 38-6 and they announced the ND-Texas score that he and Bryant looked at each other and had a discussion on whether to run it up or play the youngsters. Mal said Bryant paused then said play em all. He knew he couldn't beat Ohio State by enough to sway the pollsters. We could have put up 3 more scores that day and it wouldn't have mattered.
Such is life and was it not the sweetest natty ever this past January. The ghosts of 66,73 and 77 will never die, they are just a little easier to live with now.

Great picture from 1966 Auburn-Alabama game. Glad the dress code for games has changed.
