I don't think you need to school a Tenneessee fan on Gruden's merits.

Arkansas should hire Gruden if they can. But they probably can't.

I'm a Tennessee fan who also follows Ohio State. As you know, both teams were recently in situations where they needed to scramble to find a head coach at a bad time. Believe me when I say that it's better to go with an interim coach and hire a real coach after the season instead of tying yourself to an unproven commodity for at least 3 years. If Arkansas can't find someone they would be comfortable with for 3 years, they should go the interim route. I understand that Arkansas has been successful lately and it would hurt for the fans to see what could potentially be a big year go to waste. That said, it's better to have a bad recruiting class and some disappointing results during the season than trying to take a shot in the dark and hoping you hit the jackpot. It could work, but it's far more likely that it would just prolong the misery.

Completely agree.

That's what bothers me. It looks like Butch Davis would take the job tomorrow if offered yet Arkansas probably won't offer.

My fear is we go the interim route sacrifice a recruiting class then end up with a Dooley type hire.

Popping the champagne over on HV. Gruden appears to be a done deal. Either him or a thread w/ 12000+ posts left up by mods that is nothing but FAIL.

Not reading the whole thread but Gruden would be a great college HC. His personality and reputation alone would allow him to bring in recruits like Arkansas has never seen. This hire would concern me as an LSU fan

It would be an awesome hire....I seriously doubt we will make it.

Although Bo Mattingly said there is no way it happens so it's probably already a done deal with a signed contract.

they are going into EPIC melt down when it does not happen, personally I think Tim Horton is the man on an interim basis. No way will Gruden come to Arkansas. It sucks and many fans will probably call for Long's head but I am fine with a lifetime hog coaching us again. Tim Horton > Dooley

Gruden just seems like he really wants to get back into coaching, and this could be the type of opportunity he's been waiting for. SEC program, trending upward but still hasn't broke through to the top, great fans, facilities, etc. Maybe he waits around for UT job but I wouldn't be shocked to see him go to Arkansas

No doubt Gruden will quit his job at ESPN and pull his kids out of high school to coach at Arkansas because he caddied for the lush

I actually think Gruden doesn't want to get back into coaching.

I think he likes what he is doing, but enjoys the attention he gets every coaching search.

Also, I think his name being thrown around every year makes his reputation on ESPN look better.

Tennessee your on deck for the next Gruden for HC rumors.

I could see gruden wanting to get back into coaching just to prove he can be the top dog again. He assuredly knows he can't do that in the NFL however his only college competition is Saban and I'm betting gruden is confident he can take saban.

I agree. I have watched his QB show and he has a great personality. He would be a home run hire and he iwll fit in perfect in the SEC. Tennessee's AD should hang himself if he allows this to occur.

If he wants to get back into coaching, why not take a job that comes up next year? He'll get better choices. If Arkansas goes with an interim, he'll be able to choose from them next year, as well as any of the other big jobs that might come up.

He gets the benefit of increasing his rep without worrying about testing it with reality. He's been doing this for years.

They've already been there once. Arkansas isn't the first school to go through this.

Been there more than once. Every year for the last few years of the Fulmer regime, then after Kiffin, now during Dooley. It wouldn't be a big slap in the face if Gruden took the Hawgs lead pig position as some people think. Heck, we want the best for the Fayetteville Faithville. I still send Clint Stoerner a Christmas card
