New Orleans is not having issues with a very high murder rate and it's not spreading to the FQ? My bad if I'm reading the crime stats incorrectly.

I'm not basing N.O. at all. I like to visit. I've just been reading a lot about the crime issue there.

Jax has a fairly high murder rate but it's mostly confined to a specific area away from downtown.

Orlando is better than both Tampa and Jacksonville, IMO.

I can see this point if you are talking about people going out to the theme parks as part of their experience overall. I just really hate Orlando and I want everyone else to hate it too.

I haven't made a Magic game in the new arena yet. Seeing it may change my mind. However, I will still have to fight that God awful traffic and deal with those terrible drivers.

I live in the 'Nam so been there many times. But it can be held in NLR, as an enticement to let the MS and some N. LA and ark people to stay content.

because Nashville is 100000x better than that dump of a city to the west. You dont have to worry about getting shot there and all of the bars/places to eat are right out the front door of the arena as well.

There is a high murder rate, but other violent crimes are lower than similarly sized cities. There have been some incidents in the FQ, the most recent real bad one I can think of was around Halloween.

There aren't as many 'random' acts of violence as one would think though, that's why I say it isn't as dangerous as it seems. There was a shooting this weekend where one of the main suspects was killed in a different, unrelated shooting. But since the people that would come in for the tourney wouldn't be involved in the local gangs and drug trade, I doubt there would be many issues.

As far as Bourbon Street goes, follow these rules:
1) Don't piss in the street
2) The horse is a cop too

As is New Orleans. Yes, you can find great bars in both, but they are both just nasty towns.

Atlanta
Nashville
Orlando/Jacksonville

Has anyone mentioned Louisville? Is that doable? The city just built a fantastic new arena to replace Freedom Hall. Plus, the airport is about five minutes from downtown.

Don't touch a cop's horse if you don't want to go to jail. I've seen too many cop shows to know that no matter how much begging or pleading of ignorance you are getting arrested.

Murder is the one violent crime I fear most. Call me crazy.

Does Jacksonville have a big enough and nice enough arena to host the SEC tourney.

Yes they've hosted a couple NCAA first/second rounds.

But then again, so has Verizon/Alltel.

I doubt it will return to FL after the pitiful attendance in Tampa. Don't get me wrong, that was a great week's vacation, but the attendance was horrible.

It's definitely nice enough, but it seats about 3k less than FedEx.

I still think Louisville should get mention. Their new arena seats 22k.

I don't know the reasons Little Rock isn't considered. I'm open to being educated.

The River Market area around the arena on both sides of the riverfront is actually very nice. It would be a good time for SEC fans.

If they put it in Orlando, I believe it had great crowds there the one time the Orena hosted.

Nola murder rate is a personal/cultural problem. Those FQ shootings all involved people that knew each other. It wasn't random. Still terrible, but a recent WSJ article about it contrasted Orlando and Nola and it was pretty interesting.

With that said:

Nola
Memphis
Atlanta
Orlando
Nashville

Bham offers nothing. Terrible location.
