The ACC beat the SEC handily in head to head matchups this season.

Yeah and that is the only reason their SOS wasn't lower. FSU wanted to stay in the ACC because it was an easier path to being undefeated before the bowl games. Unfortunately, in the playoff era being in the ACC can be a problem FSU when it is a stronger year nationally.
The clincher was ultimately the QB Travis being out for the season. It sucks but they were not going to have a better resume than Alabama even if he was still available. I think Travis being a likely Heisman finalist - if not winner - would've got them over Alabama.
You got to consider the QB position when things are close between two teams. Milroe has improved but Travis wins that comp any day he available.

They feasted on our poors. Four of their 6 wins were against SEC teams that didn't make bowls and a 5th was vs aTm. Three of the SEC's 4 wins were against bowl eligible ACC teams.

FSU is 100% in over Alabama if Travis were healthy.

LSU turning out to be shitty this year really dragged this number down. Unlucky for FSU.

But they can control their out of conference scheduling.
And they failed by stopping at 2 SEC opponents.
At least Bama had the balls to schedule just as tough with 2 out of conference p5 opponents. You know. Since the OOC scheduling is the only part that they control of their schedule.

At least Bama tries just as hard as FSU with out of conference scheduling.
At least Bama went undefeated with that out of conference scheduling since it is the only part of scheduling that the team controls.

Are you saying that the best 4 teams should be in?
Saban was against that idea in 2018 when he said UGA was one of the 4 best teams in the country. Saban voted UGA #5 because they didn't deserve to be top 4. It wouldn't be fair
