Fox Sports: Longhorns Need A&M

quote:

After all, what would be cooler than seeing the swag of Sumlin go up against the quiet confidence of Strong? What's better than that offense, versus that defense, with the pride of an entire state on the line, and years of built-up tension to heighten the intensity?
Not much, honestly.
But as exciting as the potential of this game might be, I couldn't help but think one thing when I heard the news: No offense Texas fans, but why exactly would A&M want to schedule you? In a world where the "war" between Texas and Texas A&M will never end, hasn't A&M kind of won the battle right now? Right now, the Aggies are winning bigger, recruiting better and doing it with more style and swag than Texas could ever imagine. Texas A&M is the "it" program in Texas right now, the school on the tip of every kid's tongue. What exactly do they have to gain by playing Texas? Don't the Longhorns need this game much more than the Aggies do?

Don't we play them in in 2016 and in Knoxville in 2023?

Lol yall are on borrowed time as the "it" program in Texas. Be honest with yourselves. You know it won't last much longer.

I thought the "it" programs in Texas were TCU and Baylor?

No disrespect to Aggieland, but since when are they the "it" program? B/c they had a Heisman winner? TCU runs circles around Aggie right now. If they start truly competing for the SECW, that very well could happen. Other than that, they are just like LSU at the moment - a mid-tier conference program with a shitload of $$ to burn.

Well, I started to post it there, but I noticed there was a 7,000 page post about the A&M vs Texas game already on the rant. So, I figured there would be interest in this recent article.

It depends if we capitalize properly while they are struggling. It's going to take some sustained results on the field over the next few years (or a decade of winning 10+ games like they recently had would be nice).

A&M is hot for now. But UT needing A&M sounds like a stretch

True

recruiting better

Texas has had a higher ranked class than aTm 3 of the last 5, but aTm has 2 of the last 3. This is kind of a wash at this point.

doing it with more style and swag than Texas could ever imagine

I'd say TCU and Baylor are the 'it' programs right now in Texas.

They jumped to the most powerful and rich conference in the country, they don't need to play them anymore.

A&M lost a shite ton of battles, but they won the war.

Why does Foxsports ride our junk? The Big 12 has the contract with Fox, the SEC is all ESPN. In fact we devalued their property when we left. I mean Texas's Tier 3 is ESPN, (as is the Big 12 Tier 1 contract), but most of the media inventory is Tier 2 which Fox has the rights to.

Unless those frickers are all GOT and they appreciate that us leaving led to the end of the old Big East which allowed them to create a new Big East for cheap basketball content. In which case I will take it.

Funny you mention him. Here is a quote from him last year:

quote:

"I may not like Texas A&M because they suck right now. I may not like Texas because they suck. But both have so much potential," Jefferson said. "That's what I'm looking at now. To be honest, A&M has twice as much potential."

Nice kid, too bad his parents and family are all Longhorns and pressured him to commit there.

Good thing your opinion isn't shared by high school recruits.
