So far we have bama fans claiming the Bear started it in the 60's, then another said it started in the 70's; one more claimed it was in the 80's. Sorry, hoss, but my highschool football team was using it in 1961, my freshman yr & it had been a semi tradition earlier than that. So, I am going to presume the Bear stole it from Coach Hebert?

I don't give a shite if the ancient Aztecs held up 4 fingers before before their heart was cut out. Four fingers == 4th quarter belongs to Bama. Always has been, and always will be.

In high school we just gave a single middle finger at the start of the 4th. We couldn't stand each other and had no team chemistry.

Did the Aztecs yell "Roll Damn Tide" before their heart was cut out?
Maybe they cut their hearts out because they had too much Bama in them.

So prior to the 1970's no one indicated the start of the 4th qtr with 4 fingers? I highly doubt that.

That part about halftime may have a kernel of truth to it, actually.

Well, it was just a thought. Maybe it isn't true. Nice talking to all of you.
