Please enlighten me as to the research (or lack thereof) being done on the UGA campus.

The burden of proof is on you to prove to the AAU (me, A&M et al) that your budget is research-intensive, with a lot of publications and federal grants etc.

Sorry but as of now...

If UGA was truly a better school, you would have realized that it's intellectually dishonest to cut an idea out of the middle of a series of related ideas and then repost only parts of what I wrote in a way that misrepresents the argument I was making. In between what you posted and attributed to me (copied below as you quoted it) was a statement that I wouldn't trade my years at LSU for anything. That experience at LSU, coupled with the idea that I have experience as a student at highly ranked schools (which you did quote) leads me disregard a lot of these rankings. By cherry picking parts of a larger argument and smashing them back together without important connecting ideas, you've tried to make me seem like I'm being logically inconsistent.

quote:

quote: After earning advanced degrees from two top 15 (the real top 15) schools

(...connecting point you left out goes here...)

quote: I don't put a lot of faith in the rankings gotcha.

So, yeah. TLDR summary: You need to ask for your money back from UGA. Rankings are overrated. I'm only pointing all of this out because you seem to think UGA is so superior. Typical UGA fan.

Still TLDR: Just down vote.

Even as a UT grad I have to come to A&M's defense on this. The research conducted at A&M in the agriculture field is only behind UC Davis and Cornell.
frick, A&M cloned a cat. Something that all other agriculture universities in the SEC could only wish to do

As long as we're playing nice, your engineering grads really do earn those higher salaries than their tech and uh counterparts.

Oh, so AAU membership allows you to make baseless accusations and then assume they're true until the accused proves otherwise? The honors and benefits of membership really are something...

Speaking of intellectual dishonesty, nice colossal leap in logic right there. One person on the internet uses the contradicting statements you wrote against you, therefore UGA is a poor school.

Hahaha touché! ...except my statement was laced with sarcasm. (I also told you to ask for your money back.) You truly believed what you copied and pasted was accurate and honest. There's a big difference here. But, hey, that escapes you, maybe?

I never did claim UGA was a poor school. I'm just claiming that you and the other UGA posters on this thread have an inflated sense of self. And you have really played the part well!

Then there's me in my starring role as a typical LSU fan with a chip on my shoulder. :)

Correct but the backbone of UT is Classical Studies which is still equal to any Ivy League University, Oxford or Cambridge

The difference from an AAU university and a non AAU university is the quality of professors

Eh, I'm pretty sure AAU membership is based on research and not much else. Which means schools that turn out doctors and engineers/scientists will be in almost by default. Schools that focus on secondary education, other liberal arts, and pre-law... won't.

I've always been proud of my A&M degree but AAU membership sure isn't one of the reasons why.

i never even heard of AAU.

looks like some kind of marketing gimmick and lobbyist group to get research money from the government.

G Tech only added in 2010 but Iowa State added in 1958.

His U of Texas may be AAU, but the school ranks just one spot ahead of "shitty Athens based non-AAU member UGA."

I'm not saying UTx isn't a good school, because it is, but AAU is kind of a joke.

This doesn't mean I wouldn't want UGA to own the distinction, though.

It is one of the best public universities in the country. More importantly it is an university who wants to have the best of everything. Starting from the students to the professors.
