I don't think that should count. They have their own football team. The school actually has a win over Nick Saban.

It half way counts. WIth someone like this they can get away with only so much shite talking. More than someone who hasn't set foot on campus and less than a graduate/attendee.

ETA: FWIW, I've found that people who actually attended the University happen to be more civil towards other fans. They don't want their program to look bad and know how much it pisses someone off when their school gets trashed.

It is a win-win. Either a part of the UA, or if not.. undefeated agains Lsu..

I was at that game it was one of my most horrible experiences in TS.

I don't think UAB should be considered part of Bama. It doesn't make since considering the size of the school and the sports program. Bama wants to claim UAB for their medical school and that is all.

this is true. When you graduate from med school there, your diploma says University of Alabama School of Medicine. Birmingham isn't even mentioned.

I don't know the answer to that. I would guess that they do, but I'm not sure.

As far as being a fan goes, the OP is asking an irrelevant question. However, I went to Alabama!

Being a student from a particular school or having graduated makes you no more or less of a fan. It gives no one any MORE of a claim to pride in a school team.

You actually go to school with the athletes. You have something in common with them other than just living in the area. What makes the school so special to the non-graduate/student?

It's like going to church to just hangout.

Many pro fans are just as rabid as college fans. Cleveland Browns fans don't go to school with the players but they'll certainly break your skull with a bottle.

I guess all fans of pro teams are screwed since they can't attend schools to their respective teams.

Alabama represents the state of Alabama to me. It represents where I'm from, a huge part of our culture, and what we know best. Alabama isn't a high revenue state. We have only a handful of things to be proud of. Our beautiful beaches, our families and our region's respect for God, our hunting lands, our soil and clean air... And our football teams.

It's one thing people truly respect Alabama for. That's worthy of pride.

fwiw.. and this is with ANY college.... there are some college grads who are nowhere near the fan as some who haven't gone to the schools they pull for. Some do more to support the University's than some grads do. So to try and play it out that some folks are more deserving of fandom is kinda dumb. (With the exception of available perks to alumni).

Thanks buddy.

The point is that if going to the school was what made people real or rabid fans, then pro sports wouldn't have it's loonies.

I went to the University of Houston but didn't grow up watching or caring about the UH. I went because it was near where I graduated HS.

I went to college with the athletes at UH and didn't care about the team at all. I grew up being an Alabama fan because thats where my family was from.
