Most if not all of the Danny Ford players were gone by the 2002 season. He played a lot of freshmen the year before because he botched the 2000 recruiting class.

He is not what we needed when Frank Broyles had a better candidate in Tommy Tuberville. But Chancellor John White stepped in and arranged a search committee of former players. Nutt the brown noser that he is won then over and was hired.

Nutt should have been fired after the 2005 season. Butch Davis would take the job but the Arkansas media downplayed it as not true but it was the truth.

He did a decent job but still underachieved. In the end it wasn't good enough. Nutt was never taking the Nebraska job because he could never meet those expectations. An 8-4 Nebraska team at that time would put him on the hot seat.

He isn't a monster but he is still a piece of shite.

The thing is, 1998-2007 was an ideal time for Arkansas to do some damage since the West was much weaker than it has been since and Nutt really didn't do that. He did get to Atlanta in 2002 but that was bc Bama was on probation. Arkansas faces a much more difficult uphill climb now

I would guess you were a Hogville guy.

We knew the SEC was going to be a heck of alot tougher than the old SWC.

I'd take a few nine win seasons right now.

It was but that is just an example of not taking advantage of opportunities. They do face a bigger challenge but football teams go in cycles and Arkansas won't be a doormat for long. You can't make excuses of we have a small population or we just can't get the players that justices laziness and incompetence. It was and is always a bout the coaching.

If you talk like a loser then you are a loser. If you say your team will never win the SEC then it will happen. You say what you say and do what you do. Everything else is bullshite.

I posted on hogville but only as a troll. I was a member of other razorbacks sites but only as a lurker. I started posting on the rant because they engage in more civil conversations and don't get off topic as much as others.

The SEC was tougher but not the monster that it is today. I certainly wouldn't complain any 9 win seasons today.

This has been a fun thread to read. I hated when LSU played Nutt-coached teams. He had a way of beating the Tigers. Several close games in series with Arkansas and OM.

I guess that has given me a different opinion of him. His on field decisions against LSU paid off many times.

On a side note: 2004 Arkansas v Texas is on LHN right now. That crowd in Fayetteville was beyond intense.

Nutt could have easily won every game against Elmer Fudd from 2005-10. I don't think he was a very good coach, but his teams always brought it. He needed to be at a job that recruited itself (like most of the SEC big six) bc he wasn't very good at that. Iirc he lost some top instate talent from AR, which doesn't produce much to begin with

I never knew how much two rival fanbases despised the same coach. Interesting stuff.

No job really recruits itself unless the coach is an ace recruiter. Nutt would fail at any school with high expectations no matter the name. You got to have work ethic and he was very lazy in recruiting. He went after the low hanging fruit such as the academic risks and wouldn't evaluate unknown recruits unless other schools offered first.

Arkansas doesn't produce as much talent because the Little Rock metro are either underdeveloped or not playing football. Potentially you can get 6-8 big time division 1 players out of Little Rock if the high schools are well coached and developed.
