There was too much lovey dovey good game backslapping on here the last two days for this to be a true fan hate rivalry. I'm sure the players considered LSU their biggest rivalry, but not the fans.

This week stepped it up a notch and clearly is a great rivalry.

All rivalries have to start somewhere.
UT and Bama started basically because they were border states and they were the two best programs in the SEC for a long time.
There are also some rivalries that don't last. Florida/Miami. Miami/Notre Dame. Army/Notre Dame. They all died out for different reasons.
Bama/LSU will be a rivalry as long as LSU is good. It's not a knock on LSU. It's just that Bama has a ton of "rivalries" already and if LSU were to sink back to the 90's then no one would really consider it a rivalry on our side.

It doesn't matter what the fans think. its all about the players. The players now do not consider UT a rival, They do however consider AU and most of all LSU a rival.

I can absolutely get behind that. So much on the line, such great teams. Its not a game that LSU or Bama fans will get overly excited for if one or both dips back down at any point.
LSU's biggest rival is the best team they play in a given year. Since about 2003 that's gone from Auburn, to UF, to now Bama. I think it speaks well that the game LSU fans circle is the biggest obstacle to getting to ATL and the BCSCG.
I'd rather that revolving door, than need a "rival" to make the season because the program I support isn't in the national or conference championship picture often enough.

A regular season game that has morphed into most important game of the year for either team...seems like a rivalry to me.
Plus, we need something to make up for what UT has been and what AU is turning into.
