In fairness Kirby is in his 6th season and we have just now built enough depth to compete at a high enough level.

What? You played in the SECCG in his 2nd, 3rd and 4th years plus the national championship game? You could have beat Bama those 2 years if you had a better game and didn't. LSU wasn't getting beat though.

We lacked DBs in 2017. We only had 1 legit.
2018, we lacked depth at linebacker. We gave up 10 rushing TDs to QBs that season.
2019, we lacked receivers (4 went pro, 1 transferred, and 1 kicked off).
2020, we lacked QBs when fromm went pro, fields was in ohio, newman sat out.

People dont seem to realize that kirbys #1 class was 2018 (and they are just now seniors).

2017 #4 talent index
2018 #3 talent index
2019# 3 talent index

Are you saying Kirby has to be #1 there to have the depth to win a national championship? Wouldn't say much about the coaching if that is the case.

Is it even possible to have 3 Achilles' heels? Mullen manages somehow.

1. Recruiting. Word is Meg helps out there.
2. Big game asphyxiation. Check his resume.
3. Ego. Yes all successful coaches have one but they cope. Mullen does not.

Many based their perception of Mullen on his record at state. Overall 69-46. SEC 33-39. What does that say?

It's really just this and that is going to be the case with any head coach we get.

Do you have a link for your talent index?

Typically, they oversimplify talent because they do not distinguish between a true freshman and a senior.
Additionally, they dont distinguish injuries (i.e. our 2021 team has 4 and 5 star talent at QB, WR, & OL who all qualify for a medical redshirt. We have the same at DB and DL).

For the record, 2017 was an extremely talented team. Lots of upperclass talent as well. But Jeremy Pruitt did a crappy job on the recruiting trail at DB at a time that the SEC was becoming an explosive league.

2018 is skewed because of the #1 freshman recruiting class.

2019 is skewed as well (2018 and 2019 recruiting classes).

2020 was the first opportunity to shine with an upperclass that reflects the talent. But injuries and QB issues crapped on a promising season.

You are #2 now just barely to Bama. Georgia has been killing it there since right after Kirby arrived. Only OSU has been close to you and Bama.

Like i said, last season was the first opportunity for those recruits as upperclassmen.

This year, the 2018 class are seniors.

Maybe youve noticed... this year is different.

Based on Moo St's 14-22 record since Mullen left?

First year QB/OC.
Oc is legit (if you think the rams offense is good).
QB has more tools than kyle trask (tools alone dont make an nfl qb... but an nfl mind/OC can definitely help).

Next year could be shocking for the east.
I appreciate this take, but my Cats will lose a lot of dudes on defense next year. Any gains we make in the O game might be offset by the losses on D. But, I do like my team and there are few programs that developing guys as well as KY right now. It’s not out of the question that the Cats could make noise next year, but I’m not anywhere near saying it’s a certainty.
