If Ole Miss gets a defensive performance like we did last week, I feel alright about it. It looks like Philo has some mobility but running him doesn't look like it's designed in the offense as much Haynes King was when Faulkner was at GT. That or maybe it just hasn't been as necessary thus far. Admittedly have watched very little of UF.

I think watching GT is more relevant than watching UF based on opponents so far. Philo at GT wasn’t a statue but also not a battering ram.
We will need good edge rushes but probably not a QB spy.
Faulkner will absolutely have a game plan cooked up though. And you can see how much Tech misses him already. Only 14 points on Colorado.

the 2020 O was significantly better passing than the 2009 O, but 2009 was significantly better rushing. I actually don't think that the 2009 was much better than the 2020 O, if at all.
The 2009 team played the following ranked passing defenses:
#8
#9
#10
#12
#17
This team has faced:
#117 (#71 total defense)
#119 ((#124 total defense)
Nowhere near the competition to even judge, but 2009 will come out way above.

Buster has put our offense in the best possible position despite a less than ideal O line. Defense bends a lot. No lead feels comfortable.

I was comparing 2020 to 2009? But my original post said "since" meaning that there hasnt been an O at Florida this good SINCE those two teams, meaning the 2020 and 2009 offenses were at least as good as the 2026 offense.

Sure, we can do that too.
2020 faced:
#126 (#127 total)
#97 (#104 total)
#56 (#9 total - we lost)
#84 (#66 total)
#88 (#12 total)
#102 (#105 total)
#119 (#121 total)
#54 (#45 total)
#106 (#65 total)
#128 (#123 total - shoe toss)
#71 (#32 total - we lost)
#83 (#29 total - we lost)
passing defenses. Not a top 50 squad in there!
Of course the numbers were better, just like they're high right now when we've faced nobody.
This is why we don't make judgments like this on vibes.

Yeah no shite.
That's why I said "possibly" for 2020 and "no" for 2009.
If you just look at stats - particularly over what is effectively a 1-game schedule for the #71 ranked defense - without putting any additional context it makes this pretty meaningless.

I mean, that's fine and all, but the 2009 Florida passing offense was about as average as it gets. Not taking anything away from them, but the 2020 passing offense was very clearly better.

Right, and I stated "the offense looks better than..." "Looks" is not a definitive word in this context. Its a word that would indicate that I don't know this as a fact, but its my perception at the moment, and that my perception can change. And its not like its some kind of hot take either. UF's offense has been bollocks the past 5 years.
Pheww, complimenting the Gators is tough work when it comes to Gator fans apparently

Yeah man they "looked" better against a defense in the 70s and the Campbell Camels, you really can't make a reasonable analysis of that.
And similarly, you can't say 2020 was better than 2009 because 2009 faced historically good defenses and 2020 faced historically bad ones.
I mean if I said "this looks like the best Alabama of all time" after you beat ECU, Kentucky, and FSU you might have some pushback, too, right?

The offense isn't as good as it has looked so far. We converted way too many 3rd and long situations vs Auburn and won't continue to do that.

I have not seen any games this year, do y'all play more ball control with the Baugh run attack or is the offense more quick strike
Controlling time of possession could be crucial in this one

I did not try and make a reasonable analaysis of the Campbell game at all. I did not even mentioned Campbell.. I very clearly said "From what I saw of the AU UF game."

I can say that 2020 UF's passing offense was better than 2009's because it pretty obviously was in my opinion. Fine if you disagree.

Where did I try and claim that 2026 UF was the "best UF team of all time"? That is not at all what I said, obviously. I didn't say "better than, I said "better since." Do you know the difference between those two phrases? What the frick are you on about dude?

This is one of my biggest concerns about the game. And honestly, our lack of success in first down makes zero sense with Baugh and our screen game. But it's been consistent.

Kind of odd I have to hold your hand to get the point.
But ok.
Let's say "best Alabama offense since 2020" instead. Again, based on play against not particularly good teams, you'd find this pretty ridiculous.

Baugh is the best RB in the country. Clark is very solid as RB2 and will likely be our starter next year.
Philo is good. He's not a top tier elite college QB like Chambliss or Mensah from what he's shown so far but he's 10x better than Lagway. Takes care of the ball and is accurate. His two interceptions this year were bobbled passes from the WR/RB, not his fault. He can run pretty well for more of a pocket passer but that obviously isn't his main strength.
Oline seems decent this year, better than I expected, but it isn't elite. They can be beat, especially the tackles against a good EDGE. Biggest issue from that group is penalties and the Center occasionally snapping it 10 ft too high.
WRs loaded with talent. I believe Brown and Wilson will both be top 1-2 round draft picks. Singleton, our big "free agent" acquisition hasn't played yet due to injury and is questionable for this game. When he gets healthy and all three of those guys are on the field it would be hard to rank many Wideout trios over those 3 IMO. Stockton is Philo's safety blanket from GT and has been good as WR3 for us while Singleton has been out.
TEs haven't had a lot of targets in the passing game, seems like they aren't a major part of our pass attack, but they are on the field a lot to block which they do well.
Defense struggled against Auburn. The linebackers which were good last year seem to be in a slump this year, especially in coverage. The Dline has gotten a lot of sacks but this is IMO a misleading stat; take away those random big plays and watch them and you'll see little push and the QB having all day to throw. Ton of talent there with Woods and the new British guy that I won't even attempt to spell his name. If they get going I think the DL can improve as year goes on. Run defense is solid when the guys are locked in.
The DBs are the weakest link. They have had a few blown coverages already this year. There's talent there but whether they just stink, Brad White's scheme is awful, the DL is giving the QB all day to throw, or a mix of all three, it's obvious you beat this defense by throwing on them.
Special teams are strong. Solid kicker, great punter (which we have hardly had to use this year so far), and Brown is a weapon at PR.
I do not expect us to win this game unless Ole Miss really does have a letdown game and plays really flat, while we at the same time are sharp and clean up the penalties. Could it happen? It's in the Swamp, anything can happen. If Ole Miss plays to their capabilities I think it will be tough for us to compete with Chambliss.

What's kind of odd is that my compliment about Florida's offense turned into a back and fourth argument with a Florida fan
If you disagree, then fine, we'll see soon enough. But there is no Florida offense from '21-'25 that looked as competent, functional, and capable as the one I saw in JHS on Saturday night. Those offenses looked shaky and dysfunctional even against not particularly good teams at the beginning of the year. AU has some dudes on defense, future NFL guys. UF put up 44 points on them with ease, and dominated them physically.

Alabama has had exceptional offenses since 2020, so I'm not sure how that is a good comparison to what I said. But even you said that, I'm definitely not going to strongly argue against it.

-Elite skill players. VB3 looks like the second coming of Percy Harvin. You already know about Baugh.
-Philo has looked great at QB, don’t care about competition I’ve seen enough shitty qb play over the years to know the difference.
-Trenches are questionable
-secondary has looked elite and shitty at the same time
-special teams is above average

Why? I agree with that.
Just as Lagway looked better than Anthony Richardson. I wouldn't have said our offense was the best since 2020 based on that alone.
