Athens is my favorite away trip. Been there several times and loved it each trip. I feel like South Carolina and UGA are much friendlier with one another now than they were in the 2000's when I was in school.

If you're not at this place at 3:00 AM the morning before the game, you haven't really been to Cola:

Yea going into college i heard about the rivalry but we really didn’t see it when I was in school.
Always had a fun time and also made sure to head down there during the off-season for concerts and whatnot

If you haven't gotten shitcanned on $20 at Uncle Louie's, you haven't been to Columbia.

If you've never been to before, you have to try some true South Carolina mustard based bbq pulled pork. Here are a few places downtown or nearby that I would recommend:
Palmetto Pig - About $12 for the buffet, although it has fewer options than most others in the area. Excellent bbq and it's right next to campus.
Doc's Barbeque - $10.49 for the buffet (only open at lunch) and you will easily get your money's worth. Very close to the stadium, but it might to be hard to get in to on gameday.
Hudson's Smokehouse - This one is about 15 minutes outside of the city, but it is well worth it. This is my personal favorite, and the buffet is second to none. The bbq and fried catfish are amazing.
ETA: If mustard based sauce is not your thing, each of these places serves their pulled pork sauce-free so you can add whichever sauce you prefer.

The scourge of the Midlands. If the boy wants good BBQ, you need to be east of Sumter and north of Georgetown, where it's all pepper vinegar.

Went there in 2011. Had a great time. Very underrated place and the game day crowd is excellent

The Vista and "not Five Points"...Five Points is low grade and the Vista is a little more upscale. Riverbanks is terrific if you have kids...or if you don't !

I'm still a regular there.
Best fresh Guinness in town ... especially with Delaney's faltering.
I think one of my old press passes is still hanging at Uncle Louie's over by the dart boards.
Plus it's our local Mets' fans hangouts.

I used to love going to Columbia when I was in school. I'm considerably older (I remember the old Rockaways before the fire
)

I've been to many SC-UGA game weekends in both Columbia and Athens, and it's really one of those rivalries where there is legit shite talk and dislike for each other in the streets, but everyone seems to get along great in the bars.

So, I'll be heading to Columbia with some friends of mine for the A&M game this year. Anyone have any suggestions of things to do while we're there?
Make sure you bring a tent and plenty of fluid, I know its October but it could still be well into the 90s there. The stadium is nowhere near campus and in an old industrial area with no trees. There are two breweries near the stadium, one northeast (River Rat), one southwest (Concquest), both are mediocre. There are some good restaurants in other parts of town, I personally like Motor Supply and Tara.

Actually bare none is a really good place, and you're absolutely right about your statement.
