The way it was explained to me, that poll is weighted at the start of the year until there is enough data for it to formulate an unbiased result. That is why it is inaccurate (horribly so) at this point.

Well in that case, I believe this calls for an anchor.

Not really. The thread was made about you by someone else. I simply offered an opinion.

Yes, it is beyond useless at this point. ELO-Chess rankings would be stupid after one game. Everybody is either 1-0 or 0-1 obviously. So that poll takes probablistic data and inserts it into the equation. The case of Auburn/Clemson says it all. Obviously, the variables inserted into the equation tilt it slightly in favor of Auburn...no matter that they were beaten by Clemson.

At some point(first week of true BCS rankings?) there is enough data for the poll to be based on real game results, and the variables are dropped from the system. At that point...assuming Aub and Clemson win out against identical opponents(hypothetical)...you would see Clemson leap over Auburn.

TLDR... Ignore that poll until they drop the variables because it isn't worth dog shite.

Or that is my understanding of it. Sagarin doesn't release the actual methods or anything ofcourse.

I'm all for being buddies with TAMU as noobs... but 9th? Makes no sense. We've beat them 2 years in a row, they have a new coach, new qb.. while we are established at both those spots. No clue..

First computer poll is out
Sagarin. It uses the ELO-Chess segment in the BCS formula.

20. Auburn 82.20
26. Georgia 80.42

Alahunter, did you have a brain fart?

24 Georgia 81.01
25 Auburn 80.71
