More excuses for a Venables 23-6 loss. "We were so close!" Give me a break.
Mateer did good vs weak teams: Michigan, Auburn, Temple, and Illinois State while running the ball 20 times a game. He is always going to get hurt doing that. Hawkins is absolute trash.
Do you not realize literally every opponent we have wants us to keep Venables for as long as possible?
One loss is going to turn into two, then three, then four, then five...
Why are you giving this clown the benefit of the doubt when he's 13-15 agianst conference opponents?

I watched the Kent St. game to see what OU was working with outside of Mateer...and let me tell you I was excited to hear Hawkins was going to play. At best he was throwing up 50/50 balls, at worst he looked like Arch versus UTEP. It was bad.
Burnt Vegetables took the risk to start Mateer because starting Hawkins was probabilistically an almost gauranteed L.
Mateer getting the start actually worried us a bit...well, until we saw him play.
The true definition of dilemma for the coach: two bad options, had to pick the least bad and hope for the best.

Did you know he was hired due to being an offense guru and was supposed to fix the offense issues when he got the HC job?

That USCe game last year Michael Hawkins had 3 turnovers on his first 3 possessions. It was 21-0 cocks 5 minutes into the game. I think OU shut them out in the 2nd half but the damage was done.

Do OU fans not notice that literally everyone except OU fans think Venables is a complete fraud?
It's not just the Texas game(s). I've been saying it since day 1. Safe hire, not HC material, so tired of the "keep it in the family" mentality that got us the Boo Blake era. Still have holdovers on the offensive staff. Brent is somewhere between Gary Gibbs and Boo Blake. As said, he is an elite P4 DC but unfortunately they can't demote him and hire a real head coach. No knock on Brent personally, he is just not HC material.
I like where the OU program is headed but that's due to the efforts of Stephenson & Nagy.

It is always funny how in those situations the losing team's fans say they "shut them out in the 2nd half".... while the winning team's fans say "we were just sitting on the ball".

Still don’t understand why they kicked Dillon Gabriel to the curb for Jackson Arnold.

Are you seriously already talking about the 2027 class? Most kids won't even commit until next summer.
