I also think his show's structure is the best in the history of sports radio. You get interviews, sports talk, and a caller-led portion of the show that no other radio host allows. If he can appeal to a national audience, lose the Alabama focus, and screen out the idiot callers, he can have the best show in the country.
I agree with this. The only problem is, Finebaum can't actually talk sports. Every single time someone asks him what he thinks about anything on the field/court, he dodges it and dumps the call.

yeah he tells them he will look it up or ask someone.
that is why i wonder if he can survive outside bham.
i mean what else does the guy know other than bama/auburn?

But that's okay. It's better than Mike Greene, Colin Cowherd, and Freddy Coleman expressing their unfounded opinions on everything in sports.
Finebaum's a journalist. That's what he's good at. That's why his show used to be so great when it came to coaching changes, scandals, and general sports news. He somehow attracts the best guests in college football, so that's where the "opinion" section of his show can occur.
But his constant pandering to the Sons of Saban, Legend, Darryl, Tammy, and Robert have really brought his show down.

He needs N Vickers. When Paul would hit a slow spot, Vickers would pick the show up. Sense he left 960 the callers IQ have gone into the crapper.

This.
He really can't. As much as he talks about Alabama and Auburn in a single week, I bet he cannot give you the team's starters, or even what kind of defense they are in.
He concentrates on the personalities of the game - not the actual game. And that is why his show (love it or hate it) is so popular. It panders to the everyman - not just the well informed sport's fan. Sorta like The Rant.

imho, this couldn't be more off as to why he dumps the calls. he DOES swap topics, but the man is -uber- knowledgeable. the point isn't to focus on the sports when he's being asked a question, the point is to avoid serious discourse and make it "entertainment." *edit* perhaps he's more of a sports history type person and not the type that could do play by play analysis. i may could concede that. but the man is brilliant, like him or not. and he's chock full of knowledge.
lots of people don't get into the details of what's going on in the sports world etc. of course, the show DID get detailed and very sports-like at times because they were trying to cover a super wide demographic. but for the most part, the meat of the show is pure on jerry springer style entertainment because it pays around here, or at least did for a while.
i love the south as much or more than anyone on this board, but the truth is that a LOT of our folks here LOVE springer/maury/judge judy etc... divorce court etc etc.. and the finebaum admin realized this.
but i think what may have been an issue, is that although our folks here LIKE that type of stuff, they like football and real football talk about alabama or auburn even more. so maybe they liked it a while and it has run its course.
of course, all that shite i just said is my own conjecture from listening on and off since 2007.

I have a feeling that Finebaum's show will not be the same as it was on JOX.
He can screen out the Darryls and Tammys and try to become more reputable. I wonder how his ratings are nationally.

He's been national on Sirius/XM for a couple of years now. And his show still sucks. It's the same shite.

Pretty much the reason I stopped listening.

Yeah, I might drive a little slower on the way home now.

It remains unclear when and where Finebaum will go, and he he has repeatedly declined to comment on his situation.
hopefully WNSP in Mobile won't carry his show from 2pm-4pm anymore. This is usually what is on when I make the drive home from work.
I'm just tired of the same old shite. It has really been tough to listen to for about 3 years now.

I did enjoy listening to the Roundtable yesterday on the way home. It was nice hearing a jovial group of guys discussing sports and whatnot to end my day at work.

yeah... as opposed to disgruntled, miserable, crack smoking bama / auburn fans that can never find a way to be happy unless they're verbally castrating the other side.

Aside from Vinnie Verno, I dont really care for Chris Vernon.
Clay Travis would probably be more entertaining. His show airs at the same time slot

Timmy B Corndog Show, please make that happen.

U kidding right. Clay travis is a PF wanna be. He is nothing but a blogger with a talk show who loves to play the TMZ thing. Did you see some of his spear campaigns against the AU hostess program, basically calling them HO's. and then the ttown menswear crap

I've enjoyed Chris Vernon's weekly spots on the Roundtable for the last couple years. The Vinnie Verno bit was entertaining at first but got old fast IMO. Although I like his weekly spots, not sure I would like listening to him for a couple hours every day.

not surprised. A few called him out on his show about this and he wouldn't say, so I figured something was in the works. He is mainstream now, so I think he will surface elsewhere for sure. I will miss the callers though. Tammy, Jim from Crestwood, Jim from Tuscaloosa, Darrell, amoungst others.
