I don't buy this defense. It would establish a dangerous precedence. Kids would be asking for things left and right.

His resume means nothing.
Bill Clinton has an impressive resume, was a Rhodes scholar, and was caught in a bold face lie. Smart people are just as capable as the rest of us as doing dumb things or making completely illogical arguments that anyone with any common sense can refute with ease.
Dude is an Auburn apologist who thinks State is the one with a problem, not Auburn. Yeah, that's why State reported concerns about Cam's recruitment to the SEC back in January. Then State must have cooked up some scheme because Mullen was bitter about losing out on Cam to Auburn. Genius.
